Takes quite a bit of time to encode but the final result is well worth the waiting. I would dare to say it's just as good as MainConcept if not even a bit better; MC seems to either flaten / soften the image a little bit or increases contrast although you don't actually ask for that. If this little app would work on multi-core it would pretty much beat most of the encoders you pay money for.

If you find your transcoded mpeg2 file's having issue's , either during dvd authoring , or in playback , then try using this too encode your file's first .
Many feature's .
Accept's avi's frameserved from virtualdub/mod
Can load and encode avs script's
The only one I know that give's a preview (handy for encoding avisynth script's for motion menu's).
Ability to encode any part (selection).
Encode in batchmode , either as single or joined file output .
Matrice's can be simply edited using developer's pad without corruption of file format .
Ability to mux mp2 and m2v steam's to mpeg1/2 .

This is an excellent encoder, taking into account it's free - great for poor people, e.g. jobless students like me! Compared to TMPGEnc, it has loads more options and settings in some areas, but less in others. From what I've seen so far, MPEG2 encoding quality is more or less about the same as TMPGEnc's, but it is a *lot* slower at doing it.
Sadly it doesn't seem to have been updated in a good few years, but it would be great if someone else carried on the project!

Very good tool that converts everything you throw at it. Only negative point is speed. Converting normal lenght AVI's to MPEG2 can take up to 10 hours.
Quality is suberb, so use this for high quality and don't use if you're n a hurry.

Excellent tool for correcting mis-sync'd audio/video. Resulting mux'd mpeg2 dropped into Nero w/o a problem and burned perfectly. Results as good as original mpeg2...but better because the audio is now in sync.
