YAY!!! HOORAY!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Like Rick216(?), I was also compelled to post. I'm doing movie-grade 25fps screen captures and found the best balance between quality and performance to be at full-screen 800x600 resolution using Windows Media Encoder Uncompressed format. Horror of horrors, the Dell Latitude D810 with ATI Mobility Radeon X300 refuses to play that back! All Windows-based media applications either don't render it properly or crash, despite all drivers, codecs etc. being the latest. MPlayer/mencoder does work with its internal codecs ;-), but the version I have has crummy ASF support :-(. Colleagues' D810s have exactly the same problem
So I was DESPERATELY searching for a conversion utility. So of course I turned to my trusty VirtualDub for ASF support for the first time, and of course it doesn't!
So, fcchandler, you're my hero! Thanks!

I recently noticed in the build history that Virtualdub-MPEG2 had added improved WMV/ASF parsing since my initial download, and all I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Besides the usual things to love about Virtualdub -- especially with MPEG2 support -- I've always found the WMV capabilities of fcchandler's mod extremely useful and NON-buggy. But I was always a bit frustrated by its inability to load very high quality (high bitrate?) WMV's. Well, with the improved WMV parsing in the latest update, it now handles everything I throw at it! Makes my WMV tasks SOOO much easier, quicker, less convoluted -- at the same time that it allows me to end up with better output. Thanks again. When I saw that there were only 12 posts on this program, I joined the forum soley to add mine.

Great tool.I like the new WMV parsing feature, seems to work well for trimming and then saving to avi.I use it also for trimming and converting .VOB files to avi with the DivX 5.2.1 codec.
Keep up the great work, very handy.
P.S It would also be great to see even more formats supported such as Real and Quicktime!

This is what you get, when you take a great product and add an incredibly useful feature to it!
Brilliant, thanks so much for adding MPEG2 support.
Virtualdub was the very first program I used for video editing and now, even when I'm using Premiere for the actual encoding, I still use Vdub for things Premiere cannot do.
Recommended!

This is an excellent tool. I do have a couple of suggestions though: on my PC it crashes if you open an MPEG2 which is larger than 4GB (on XP) - so I think that area needs some work: not sure if it does this all the time though. Also, when you open a very large MPEG2 it takes a very long time to parse - not a problem by itself, but if the reason for parsing is to build an index of keyframes then could it not save the index to a file, so it doesn't have to do the same thing next time you open the same MPEG file? This feature could be made optional in case some users don't want it. A simple datestamp check would ensure that the index is rebuilt when necessary...

This is a brilliant mod of VirtualDub - enabling it to handle MPEG2 vobs, and ac3 audio.
So you can use all of the excellent features of vDub on vobs ripped directly from DVD - it's particularly useful for frameserving (optionally applying filters etc..) into an encoder.
It cannot handle multiple vobs, so you have to rip your source as one vob (e.g. use SmartRipper and set 'file splitting' so it produces one big vob).
Overall an excellent version of vDub - really useful.
