This is a great work that has been most useful for processing video, especially when used with Avisynth. I haven't had any issue except for the following:
On Windows 10 64bit (XP 32bit and Windows 7 64bit work properly):
When encoding a 1920x1080p 50FPS video (.avs ImageSource input) to 8bit x264 Slower preset, no audio, Save video as .mp4 MPEG part 14, the progress dialog opens and after a minute VDub2 presents this error:
video compression error may be corrupt data error code -100
Compressing with Lagarith instead, then opening the Lagarith file and compressing with x264 (same settings) is successful.
XP 32bit and Windows 7 64bit do not have the issue and the Lagarith step is unnecessary.
I searched the error and it happens in other programs too only on Windows 10. So far no one has solved it. Guesses are that there's something wrong with Windows 10's memory allocation code. Perhaps there's a coding workaround until Microsoft fixes the issue?

This version has been glitched,mulfucnctionng,several times,causing so many troubles already,too many bugs, even more than previous versions,fixed the preview window, make some effort to improved it,this software could do so much better,please build it timeline so users can edited the way supposed to be NLE,and add already some well deserved color filters,please make it already in the dark mode,this way much more convenient to edit in the dark, thank you.

I use other software for my encoding needs but got really excited when read that VirtualDub has the Smart Rendering feature. Unfortunately, it turns out that at least for now it's completely useless. Supposedly, certain posts suggested that when it's enabled you can do a "Stream Copy" and it will save your cut clip by just rendering the cut points but in reality it completely ignores your cuts. So, then I tried using export but regardless of whatever codec I selected from the list an error pops up "Smart Rendering failed to initialize, the selected codec can be used to compress media but compression of original can't be matched" or something very similar to that effect. When looked for explanation and any workarounds all I found was people asking about the problem but no fix. It's a real shame but do hope this will get fixed in the future.

Can we expect next update in the dark mode please, In general software need major improvements in 32/64 versions, crashes, in terms of lack of filters, especially color filters, finally please build in timeline with the thumbnails segments, three way color grading/correction, secondary color correction, white balance, tint, hues, improvements in brightness/contrast, some other filters as well.

Please update the latest 44237 has lots of bugs, improve and update filters, filters for the future felease three way color correction, hues for every color, saturation, brightness, contrast for hues, tint, gradient map, mixing channels, build in timeline, secondary color correction with dropper, other filters as well, To able to work on video independently from each frame separate, "NLE" it's going to take time but it will be worth it, so others won't have to use other software

Nice and easy to use after a little bit of a learning curve i.e a few practice encodes etc to get used to it as it is a powerful tool with lots of features. I still haven't managed to work out how to do a 2 pass using h264 codec as it always crashes on me. My set up procedure?, but I get a 2 pass xvid done without any problems. Kudos to the developer.

Honestly speaking, this program was the best thing that ever happened, a real feat in rescuing it. I used the old virtualdub for its efficiency, however, it needed updating and fortunately it happened. However, after some updates, virtualdub2 no longer accepts files in m2v, as the system returns a message that the plug-in is not compatible with that file type, thus forcing to convert the files to vob, or mkv (I convert dvd files to mkv), but I only have compliments to make!

Wish it were ACTUALLY portable. It is, in a way, as it requires no installation; but it writes too much "stuff" to the registry
— & it's not specific to that interesting new / optimized version: Avery Lee's versions also, added keys etc. to the registry.
Although it's quite easy to avoid by making it 100% portable using some virtualization tool, with most of them *, "plugins32" & "plugins64" subdirs aren't (directly) accessible anymore;
i.e. kind of a regression, in the case of VirtualDub (heavily "based" on plugins)! Therefore, a natively portable version would be an easier solution , here.
[* Except an old one, named "JauntePE", but only able to virtualize 32-bit apps; and this VD package contains both a 32 + a 64-bit version... ]

REVERSE Frames?
Please consider adding a REVERSE SELECTED FRAMES option, one click = Reverse.

But 2 User-Friendly FEATURES that could be added quickly will be AWESOME:
1 - DARK Theme color (the old fashion light-gray color is too bright for the eyes on big screens) or manage to change the brightness manually will be great. GOOD EXAMPLE for DARK THEME COLOR is Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere. not too dark but dark enough to focus the video. (buttons could stay the same for early DARK THEME release if it takes time to redesign).
2 - Save STARTUP configuration, Since the old versions we need to use: "FILE > SAVE PROJECT"
and then using some annoying shortcut with the name of the files and script, example:
C:\VirtualDub-1.10.4-AMD64__REVERSE\Veedub64.exe /s"Xvid_Defaults.vdscript"
Please make an option to SAVE CURRENT configurations (video compression, audio, any other changes..)
and extra option such as: "Restore Default" if anyone wants to reset to default factory settings.
Keep up the good job, so far it works amazing! :)

great amendment to original vdub with MP4 encode/decode support, however there is one issue, if you simply want to join MP4 files, or cut part and make direct stream copy, it will not work. To be developed in the next versions.

One of the best Software I have used. This Mod version is a really good idea and it is still working with MSU Smart Deblock, NEAT Video Filter and SuperRES => Result is impressive ! Please, don't stop working on that software... Thanks again for your work ;)

Great to have it in development, but this build like older ones too buggy. H264 encoding crashes and the bug mentioned from below reviewer is there. I won't be using this again as I'll stick to virtualdub in future or avidemux.

VirtualDub FilterMod is an excellent software, updated, with very good preview screen, and with excellent filters, however it has an error since its first version is as follows. If you import for example an MPEG-2 or vob file, select the "resize" option, and under this option select the "interlaced" option, the image will have the colors unconfigured, like a 3D video. Tried to encode using H264 encoding and it crashed! Avi was okay as expected, but I will just use the older stable vdubmod to do this or autoGK if I need an xvid encoding. Nice that its free and in development, but disappointed a bit with the bugs present. Sorry!

Please scrap this value for money nonsense, regarding freeware reviews. Now to the review. I really just echo the other reviews that it needs direct stream copy function like FCC handler and be able to handle Bob files like older vdub mod. The mpeg request, you can use ffchandler plugin, but why not have it already built in? Anyway impressive software and thankyou.
