The software still doesn't recognize Asian subtitles (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai) correctly.
The other problem is - you still have to use additional OCR stuff, which is really complicated and annoying.
Also, this software does not work with audio absolutely. No speech-to-text at all.
All these facts are really upsetting.

Quick note to start with: you don't necessarily need ABBYY finereader to OCR the results (meaning, converting images of the subtitles to actual text). SubtitleEdit can import the images and OCR them too.

Still, it's a nice piece of software, that makes it easy to rip hardcoded subtitles. VideoSubFinder isn't hard to use - once you figure out what's supposed to happen. I.e. that it creates image files with time codes, that then have to be recognised in the second stage.
When you understand how the chain of processes works, it's not complicated to operate at all!
Works fine when the picture quality is best and subtitles are white with border. Of course, manual correction is still necessary.

However... I fear, that InPaintDelogo yields better results. It requires more technical skills, but I had a few hardcoded subtitles in yellow - some were otherwise sharp. VSF just couldn't cope even if I started playing with the settings.
Even normal white subtitles (with black border) in SD videos may come out a little bit better with Inpaint. It also seems to miss less items - while VSF sometimes skips a few sentences that you have to add manually.

As mentioned at the start, Subtitle Edit's options for OCR (such as tesseract) may give better than ABBYY. (Or else, just try both, before you delete the image files.) Not to beat about the bush: if SubtitleEdit one day incorporates this detection function, then VSF will be totally redundant.

This version cuts the lines. There is missing lines and characters in each title.
ABBYY can OCR the lines without error. But when it comes to Create subtitle from TXT Results, it cuts every line.

TXT RESULT:
"HOŞ GELDİN BOB"

SUBTITLE RESULT:
1
00:01:19,920 --> 00:01:21,279
HO

i think there is small problem of clear text image making for Chinese sub, I mean it removes the parts of the fonts too much. But the speed of making RABG images is getting better.

Pros: It fixes some problem on 2.70. Now can detect subs that on the side of the screen (left/right aligned).

Cons: Version 3.00 and onwards are MUCH slower and producing WORSE results than 2.70. The "cleared TXT images" are dirtier/producing more spots/areas that is not text/dialogue/subs.

By far the fastest program for ripping hardcoded subtitles.

+ Easy to use (if you see/read one or two tutorials)
+ Very fast in recognizing subtitles

- Some crashes here and there
- needs a seperate ocr program (like FineReader) to generate text from images
- misses some lines

For the missed lines problem, I had to lower the value of "vedges_points_line_error" variable in the settings file "/settings/general.cfg"
from
"vedges_points_line_error = 0.35"
to
"vedges_points_line_error = 0.20"
and that fixed the problem for me.
