On attempting to launch load library failed with error code 1114 appeared I then set the mode on Radeon Graphics switchable applications to high performance which allowed the program to launch however when I endeavoured to play the video placed in the program result was a black screen no video only audio.I had a similar problem with LosslessCut but changed the switchable graphics to power saving which rectified the black screen no video only audio & didn't have a problem with load library error code 1114 on launch.Conclusion if you have Radeon Graphics on your system VidCutter is incompatible perhaps it may function correctly in a system that incorporates NVIDIA Graphics.I hope this is useful to someone experiencing similar problems.

Tried this first on Ubuntu but it was VERY unstable with random crashes and crashed every time I tried to save a file. Then switched to Windows 11 and seemed to work OK at first. However, cannot save multiple clips as computer freezes for hours. Had to save clips individually and recombine later. Even then it froze about 1 in 5 times when saving a clip.

Just dicovered that VidCutter now has a Smart Render" feature. Excellent...

I really like the nice and easy to use GUI, just the right balance between ease of use and power. Please resist the temptation to make a full fleged NLE video editor from it.

One problem I found is that it does not handle MKV files with AVC video and AAC audio very well:
The software uses FFmpeg, and this is probably the reason for this problem. The resulting file from a standard MKV source made by the latest MKVMerge (progressive 25fps CFR, 704x396, encoded with the latest X264) has horizontal motion judder while the source had smooth movement. Analyzing the result showed that the file is now 25 fps VFR instead of CFR, and it has non-monotonous timestamps.

What solved the issue for me was to only use it with MP4 files. If the needed container is MKV, remuxing MKV to MP4 and vice versa is just a matter of seconds with FFmpeg...

Thanks for this excellent application!

Hi. THREE POINTS, that I find relevant to fix, about "VidCutter";

v.6.0 in my case, tested on Windows 10 64-bit + XP 32-bit: "SP2" only, as I don't want to install "SP3";

and unless, may be, I'm the only one to complain about them?..

I haven't tested "VidCutter" well enough yet, BUT, "point 0": thanks to its author for providing a FREE software equipped with that -- valuable -- "smart render" option!

--- 1. I had to download + install 4 versions, until I understood for sure that the tool will NOT start on Windows XP "SP2" (not even its previous versions) but, probably, "SP3" only;

that should be stated clearly (somewhere...), but I could NOT find the info. anywhere => waste of time.

[ Friends & I are using both Win. 10 and XP, & I see no point in installing "SP3" on XP, that turns a light OS into a heavy bloat / in that case, one might as well install Win. 7... ]

--- 2. The "smart render" option is only available from v. 5.0 on. That info. should also be included to the MAIN description, not to the changelog/history only, where it's difficult to find, if not uncertain, more or less...

--- 3. and not least! Once dropped on "Avidemux 2.7.1 64-bit", a test clip -- cut out by "VidCutter 6" on a non-key or "I" frame of course --, displays a green 1st image

"plus", when seeking a few frames forward, & finally: back to 1st frame, "Avidemux" randomly displays other frames than the actual 1st one;

cutting must have messed up something -- obviously...

Nevertheless, "VirtualDub", "VLC" and "PotPlayer" seem to play/seek thru a (technically) "perfect" clip

-- BUT I don't find "Avidemux" reaction exactly reinsuring!

Who would cut several or important vids., that some other tool plays with a green frame at its beginning?..

So: I tried to save that result again, using "FFmpeg" alone, set on no reencoding at all, of course. Then only, "Avidemux" displayed the new result with no problem.

I confirm this situation - editing a small clip (less than 1 minute) - up to 60% calculated quickly, after - you can have a good night's sleep - if you're lucky and the program does not crash

Crash at 60% of the operation when smartcut is enabled.

I watched how the program worked and was horrified. I'm shocked! (and this is said softly). For example - took a video on the game - the file was 38 Gigabytes in size. All work is done on a computer with 64 Gigabytes of RAM, an I7-6700 processor, an SSD drive. Downloading a file to the program is almost instantaneous. I cut 14 segments from 30 seconds to 1 minute and ran to save the result. And WHAT I SEE - the processor is loaded by 100 percent with 14 copies of ffmpeg (by the number of segments) - ASK WHY IT IS PARALLEL, if the CONSECUTIVE will be kept faster.
The program worked more than 4 hours (it was interesting ...)
For comparison, SolveigMM Splitter downloaded the same file with a miscalculation, I saw the cache for 3 minutes, cut it into pieces for another 4 minutes.
7 minutes against 4 hours is nonsense, or I do not understand something and I'm doing it wrong.
I apologize for my bad english

@AlanC thanks for the tip re the cursor.. a minor bug regression.. has been fixed for the next release which should be ready in a week or two at most with some additional features; blackframe detection for auto com-skip mainly..

@michfr wanted to mention that the latest 5.5.0 release should work with your WTV files although I had a limited supply of WTV files for testing but the main issue that prevented their use was resolved. would be great if you could advise if all is good on your side now.. thx!

The bugfix release fixes the serious problem I reported in #33 thanks.

If you're picky, you might want to kill the 'busy' cursor, which appears when the information box is dismissed (after a run) and persists until you hover over a button or a thumbnail in the CLIP INDEX. Clicking to start and stop the video in the main window doesn't deal with it.

But it's not a show stopper, just misleading for the inexperienced.

Review by AlanC on Feb 7, 2018 Version: 5.5 bugfix OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

Version 5.5 hangs with 80% on the progress bar overlay.
When I inspect the target folder, the clip is there in full (as 'middle'), as are the 'start' and 'end' frame segments.
In all cases the media were Matroska containers with AVC and AC-3 content, high bitrates.
I can confirm that Version 5.0 (post script error) does not behave like this, and runs to completion.

One other factor - same result with Tools pointing to default ffmpeg/MediaInfo and to my local 64 bit copies (which I keep up to date).

(Forced to rate for this report, I am maintaining my 5.0 rating because I trust the author to address this).

I had never used the program, but I had a mini-project to do and decided to try it.

@nuful, here is no problem with the 64 bit version under win10-64bit. It starts and works perfectly. The only complain is that the frame accurate trimming is not work (yet) as promised at the beggining of the clip, but the sound cut is ok (frozen image with live sound until the next keyframe). Im sure than the author will repair this issue. It deserves thanks for his work!

Hi guys,

We've just updated the Windows x64 bit version which should now work from Win7 to Win10. Apologies for the issues encountered. This new build has been tested on Win 7 x64 as well as WinPE. The 32-bit version has not been fixed yet.

Same "script error" here, run 64bit version on Win64
Also tried the 32 bit version and although it runs first display a message saying that it could nor find ffmpeg
None of the v4.0 version of vidcutter had these issues, I'm back to the previous version for the moment.

Apparently installed on Win7x64, but program wouldn't open. Received an error window that mentioned "script error", but that was it.

I'm running Norton Internet Security and Malware Bytes. Perhaps one of them blocked something; the error message didn't mention the source or have offer the possibility to obtain more info.

Hey there guys,

Just letting you know that v4.5.0 is currently in the works and its main feature will be smart cutting, which translates to frame-accurate cutting. This is the technique by which a small portion at the beginning and end of your clip is reencoded and the majority in the middle is direct-copied as it already does. The result is frame accurate cuts just as you set them in the user interface and encoding only applies to small 2 or so second long clips so while it may be a little slower by a few seconds the trade off is guaranteed what you see is what you get functionality.

For the tech savvy, we're referring to GOP cuts on IDR keyframes and similar smart cut techniques as used by the more expensive commercial apps. Very few, if any tools, exist out there that are open-source and free that offer this feature as far as we were able to find anyways.

Should be ready for release by end of August.

Cya!

Good program. It cuts perfectly with the videos I tried, and you can do multiple cuts in the same video. The only issue I had is that it freezes when clicking 'Open' or 'Play' or 'Restart' after saving the cut video. You have to close the program via the Task Manager.

A join feature, while not necessary, would be a great addition.
