After install I tried to launch it, but it seems it was missing Msvbvm50.dll. After getting the file from the internet, program opens into fullscreen mode, the exit fullscreen button is grayed out. The only way to get out of fullscreen is by dragging the window bar, whereupon it resizes to a barely usable window, with adjustable border function completely missing. This is the problem, UI wise.
Function wise, I tried to open an SSA file. Immediately I get "4 lines were not recognised, and were discarded", with no full stop. Click OK, I get "This is a Sub Station Alpha v4.00 script. To play it correctly, please visit:xxx ... and upgrade to the latest version." (Here we have the full stop.) Don't bother. It's a dead site. Click OK. The Chinese sub comes up as gibberish.

The KING of subtitling freewares!
We have some nice new programs, like Aegisub (mainly for Karaoke works), Medusa Subtitling (no more developed), Sabbu (idem), WinSubMux, DivXLand Media Subtitler and VisualSubSync, among some few others, that can handle Audio bar + video bar for timing purposes.
But, FOR ME, SSA is still the right choice for subtitling projects and timing needs.
The weak point from it is that SSA can't handle Video Bar like VisualSubSync does and there wasn't any development in these program since his/her author quit the SSA's project.
Despite of that, it's a very nice program!
