Beats H265 and H264 in terms of quality. H265 is around but has never achieved the popularity of H264.
Will AV1 or later codecs, become popular-who really knows? I have a feeling H264 will still be No1 for a while yet!

A great free AV1 encoder, which get faster from version to version. I tested it with a GUI and was very suprised about the video quality. It is much better than h265 and even more better than h264. The encoding presets make it easier to encode video files to AV1-Format.
On my Intel i7 8700k CPU computer preset 8 delivers more details with the same bitrate in comparison to h265 or h264. It is impressive.
