On Windows system you do not need the Quick Time Player for playback of videos.
It could be important to edit/convert Apple Mac videos in MOV-File Format.
In most cases you can do it with other freeware tools like XMedia Recode or other tools, too.
The price for the pro version ist very expensive, if you do not need it for professional usage.
The only use for playback of videos is not recomment for popular video/audio formats, because there are enough codec packs e.g. for better compatibility and higher quality or resizing features. MPC video renderer and mpc-hc / mpc-be player is the best choice.

This was a really good video player back in the day, however it hasn't been updated in years. I only use this for codec support.

I need a MAC compatible alternative to recording DV with our Quicktime Pro.
We connect out Panasonic AVG 30 DV Camera by firewire to out I-Mac and use Quicktime PRO (h.264 mode)to record the video as a .mov.
The problem is the quality is not good at all. Tones are off (greenish/flat) its just not presentable any more.
Is there a simple to use (non computer people use this)alternative to QTPro?

People complaining about things like "it can't open my divx files" should first read up on what a codec is, and then install the proper codecs. Or just install Perian (a codec collection) and Flip4Mac and enjoy your avi, divx, etc movies
It's not QuickTime's fault if you don't give it the codecs to work with.

Probably the best movie viewer around, but, the export features do not make it worth paying for. It claims to be able to export to avi format but offers few codecs and they are not the best ones. There is no way to point it to the codecs that are installed on the system hence you can't use Divx or Xvid for example.

Garbage is all I can say. Proprietary media player that contantly bothers me with pop up reminders to upgrade even when I choose the disable the reminder option. They bundle this player with other softwares like Canopus Procoder 2.0 which happens to be a great encoder but will not run unless Quicktime is installed. My advice is to stay away from anything proprietary. Use Quicktime Alt codecs if you must.
