Skeptical at first, but desperation caused me to take a chance. There was nothing to it. It worked like a charm. Follow some basic instructions and it's done in seconds.

GratefulVisitor , I cannot thank you enough , I have so little knowledge on programming. First I found the untruck from a youtube video , then on github but because I don't know any coding .I couldn't use github. Google search also brought this site and your comment was the one make it possible for me to save my very precious video call record with a dear friend of mine. Our recording couldn't finished bc pc crashed and obs was still recording with mp4 for settings.. Then I also learned from reddit

Just don't record to mp4 directly. Use flv (single audio track) and mkv (multiple audio tracks), they are crash resistant and can be converted to mp4 in a few seconds using the file > Remux command in OBS.
Would never record with mp4 again , and always run the obs in safe mode , its under help bar ( restart in safemode )

If you're like me, you have a corrupted video or one where the software/device died while recording leaving you with a large unreadable .mp4 or similar file.
Here are the steps I took to make this software repair my file:
1. I clicked the link above to download the 64bit GUI version of untrunc.
* exact link is named this: "Download untrunc 2021-11-21 64-bit (GUI included) Win64"
2. Extract everything from the zip into a new folder
3. From the newly extracted folder, run "untrunc-gui.exe"
4. Make a folder off the root of C: with your reference and corrupted file inside (unsure if this is required, but it worked for me)
5. Browse to the good reference file, and your corrupted file in the corresponding fields
6. Click repair
7. The fixed file will be in the same repository as your original files

Amazing, repaired my DJI drone footage in seconds. All you need for a reference file is something using the same type camera/lens.

Download other versions > Download untrunc 2021-11-21 64 bit (GUI included) Win64 WORKED. Repaired a 23hr file in 30seconds. Moved them to C drive to ensure no issues.

The files have to be on C drive because the UI doesn't let you go anywhere else. Other than that, it worked for me.

tried again with a larger reference video, and 2nd time it worked great - both audio and video are synced.
Giving this program excellent rating, since it succesfuly recovered the truncated MP4 file.

Recovered a truncated MP4 file, video time dubled and got out sync with audio, resulting in a "slow motion" effect, however video image is clear so better than nothing

Piece of rubbish. Doesn't work at all.
First, I can't even drag a file onto the window, I have to manually open it, going through directory after directory. A basic function - but so useful. And even the smallest apps offer this feature, but not this piece of rubbish.
So - I have to manually select the file that I want to open. But ... I can't!!!!! The file is on a different disk from the one where the software is installed, and despite trying a dozen times, the software does not allow me to change the drive letter. I can click on other drive letters as often as I want - the result is that the original drive letter (where the software is installed) is shown.
Well, that's all I can say about this piece of rubbish - I don't know if it works or not, because I CANNOT EVEN OPEN A FILE!!!

During video recording, the power went out and the mp4 file was saved without an end. The vlc could not play it nor repair it. With MP4 Repair untrunc GUI 0.9.0 I was able to repair it in 1 minute just needed a reference mp4. Thanks for letting me use it

I've had a corrupt file from a trip to Las Vegas since 2013 (now 2020) and finally found a tool that could fix the problem!
Easy to use (64bit version) - Just make sure you use a valid reference file!

Recovered audio and video from truncated .mp4 containing captured data from the Elgato Game Capture HD software. There existed 20 minutes of footage but only the final 4 seconds was playable. Other software did well at extracting the video but failed at extracting the audio (at my own error most likely). Untrunc had no issue on the first repair and breezed through a 5 Gb file within about 30 seconds.
