It seems that branch 12 will bot released before I am 6 feet under!
That sucks! LIBAV is not a good choice for developers who wants to be up-to-date!
Your overall better choice is FFMPEG!

It still does not have proper support for Avisynth 2.6, is a shame.

Simply annoying is the long time between major release versions. Version 12 is under development since more than a half year, but we still see no release version announced. I just complain about it because most open source software developer do not use nightly builds so new features not come to life in proper libav based softwsae tools while ffmpeg based tools have it included due to their faster integration to release versions & the shorter release cycles.
I do not say that ffmpeg is more better than libav or the other way around. I just say that great developments does not cone to life without a force to release it soon. Development in libav is great, but please let it out all the good work you did to can use all the good work in great tools such as VLC Player or Handbrake. If these tools would use ffmpeg libraries the missing features & format support would be already a part of it...
My hope for the future is to see libav & ffmpeg teams joined.

Twelve years ago that Avisynth use, in ffmpeg I have no problems, in mencoder I have no problems, in libav:
"avconv version v12_dev0-1322-g4e17946, Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the Libav developers
built on May 24 2015 18:24:04 with gcc 4.8.3 (Gentoo 4.8.3 p1.1, pie-0.5.9)
C:\Program Files (x86)\LIBAV\usr\bin\LIBRA.avs: Invalid data found when processing input"
Please fix it.
Thank you.

Seems to work as it should. Although, I still don't see the point why I should use this rather than ffmpeg. Developer's page says:
"It originates from the FFmpeg codebase, but goes its own way these days, providing its users with reliable releases and a clear vision how to go forward."
Doesn't say much to me. Is there any remarkable difference?
