I was using Vdub capturing for a while, till I faced some audio errors. I started using AVI_IO and have not had to use any other program after that.

The best capture program I have ever tried. Serious competion for the expensive programs.
Try the Demo version I am sure you will be impressed and the program is less than 150K.

Great program because it is simple to set up and use and it loses very few frames while capturing, infact the frames it drops are done deliberately every 4 mins or so, to keep video and audio in sync.
I like the fact you can do multiple segment capture, i.e. 4GB files so you can capture for hours. A good avi editor like Virtual Dub will read the first 4GB file and then automatically load the rest, which means you can edit your entire captured video in one window.
Another feature I like is the ability to pause the capture, i.e. when adverts come on etc and you can then resume capture without having to start a new capture file.
It also seems to recall your colour, brightness and contrast settings etc each time you launch the program. Most capture software seems to reset these settings and it is very annoying to have to enter them everytime you start the program. With AVI_IO you can save the program settings and load different setups too.
Basically this is a very reliable and stable program that performs very well indeed.

I have had this software for some years. I originally purchased it to use with a matrox g400 marvel. I have also used it to capture dv (dazzle hollywood dv bridge and canopus advc-100). Note: I also own a copy of the mainconcept dv codec.) Under windows 2000 AVI_IO works great. I have not been able to capture DV video with AVI_IO under XP Pro nor have I found anyone else who has claims this functionality. The two features I like most about it are 1) captures can span drives and 2) the timer. The Cons: 1) cannot capture dv under XP and 2) Support and updates leave much to be desired.
