ZS4 Video Editing and Compositing Software v0.948
Changes in this version include the following:
* added horizontal aligment variable to credit text generator. This is used with a " text alignemnt" variable in the credit text generator, that allows left/centre and right alignment of the credit text and anything in between.
* added a button to the arrangement pane toolbar which facilitates the trimming of the current track from the current time (position) to the end of the track.
* Fixed minor issues like spaces between toolbar buttons and missing buttons grafix in the change key effect.
* Improved Help/F1 response in a fashion which allows the zs4.net website to provide more accurate help information. specifically for the track-specific buttons on the arrangement page which allow the viewing of rectangles, audio etc in the upper (track) panels.
Windows only
* made t@b decoder (tabdec.dll) configurable separately for any invoking program. if a program (someprog.exe) plays the video upside down. then a configuration file for that program "someprog.exe.tabdec.ini" can be set up. every fourcc can have a decoder ini group like [MJPG_decode] with an entry that says "upside_down=1" if the coded should flip the video frame upside_down during decompression.
Version 0.947 beta is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* The program is now available under the revised t@b free License. This means, in essence that the software has become free for profit use as well. Institutional and commercial use are free of charge (no license fee).
* We added a button ["trim up to current time"], which allows the trimming of the current track up to the current project position (time) in arrangement pane.
* We fixed the [trim-to-mark] button in arrangement pane so that the end of the clip is no longer extended by the same amount as it is trimmed at the beginning and attempted to prevent a resulting clip of less than 1 second duration.
* When the opacity of a clip or (sub)-mixer was below -1, then, (for optimization purposes) zs4 would not bother to calculate child tracks/effects and thus also not display the impact of these child tracks in the arrangement view. this should be fixed in v0.947.
* There's now a delay in the tooltip (hint popups to explain buttons) so that they will not neccessarily obscure other UI items when used promptly....
Version 0.946 beta is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* This release was actual planned as v0.945. A severe problem caused us to retract v0.945 and replace it with v0.946 (this version) within 24 hours. Time/Track variables should once more function more pleasantly...
* There is now mouse wheel support for the SDL gui driver. This change will affect only those (linux) users who require the use of the tabsdl guidriver.
* Internally some Optimizations have been added which are geared to processing audio envelope variables with a frequency of 48000 Key Frames per second. These will come into play with upcoming audio effects.
* Fixed: due to the fact that avi file headers only support integral frame rates, the file headers ended up indicating a frame rate of 29 fps instead of 30 fps when a frame rate of 29.97 was requested while generating an avi output file with ZS4. This has been fixed by writing a rounded integral value in the file headers (30 fps in the above case).
* The windows installer will now allow the user to select which codecs should be installed. By default it will only install mvjp, mpng and 444p, since those are not there by default and thus should not cause any "collisions"... Also: The tabdec.dll which contains these and other decoders will now be installed in the zs4 program directory and no longer into the system directory.
* 3 new effects have been added, all based on the new support for RGB color variables in the vars tab. These effects are intended to create a variety of color/alpha gradients based on the ability to modify color channel variables over time.
Version 0.945 beta is now available from the download page.

Version 0.944 beta is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* Minor Optimizations See here for details.
* Changed the application launcher so that it will attempt all available gui drivers if the default gui driver fails. See here for details
* There's a slight correction in the handling for source opaquity. See here for details.
* Blurr chroma effect added to convolution filters/BlurFilters
* New plugins permit the de-interlacing of interlaced video signals by picking either the even or the odd field. (commercial license)
* New keying filter, which allows the user to select a reference frame and then make all pixels throughout the video transparent, if they are equal to the reference frame. (commercial license)
* Reorganizations in effect treeview include:
The remove-perspective filter is now properly filed under "bitmap filters->distortion".
Flip x, flip y, rotate move scale and rotate forward effects are now filed under "bitmap filters->miscellaneous".
The subgrouping for the basic convolution filter has been changed, so that all blurr effects and the edge detection effects are in separate subgroups.
Version 0.942 beta is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* Free frame support has been added. This will allow 3rd parties to develop there own ZS4 plugins. It will also allow the use of 3rd party plugins with ZS4.
* A whole bunch of effect filters are being added for v0.942 beta.
21 of them are designed to generate transparencies/opacities from color component statistics. such as neighbourhood brightness to alpha channel, saturation to alpha channel, R,G,B,U or V to alpha channel, either the average of the correcsponding component in the area, the maximum or the miniumum.
Another two effectsare "brighten dark areas" and "darken bright areas", nifty for fixing up footage with extreme contrast problems.
An other two effects permit the scrolling by of text files vertically (end of video credits) or horizontally (like news tickers).
Note: All of the new 25 effects above will produce a strawberry watermark in the final output (windows). The watermark can be removed by registering the ZS4 program via the register button at the bottom right of the ZS4 user interface.
* A new preview button on each trackof the arrangement pane (track view) and the "current" tab will automatically generate low quality output and open the result using a media playback program which is resident on the system (3rd party). There is also a replay last preview button in the global toolbar (bottom left).
* Included a movable divider for the video rectangle pane.
* The space bar on a var tab variable, which should only make the variable "current", also used to move the current time to the next key frame (or the end of the current track). this is fixed.
* The program crashed when pressing up/down arrow keys or enter (min/max/default short cuts) on string variables (string, font name, etc) in the vars tab (bottom left). These shortcuts are now disabled for string values.
Version 0.941 alpha is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* Added a pseudo-depth to the compositing procedure. This requires a mixer to have the pseudo-depth toggle (track/properties pane) pressed down (on) and the "distance" variable of child tracks to be used for setting the relative distance of a child video image to the normal/default position. Increasing distance results in a smaller image, less distant from the center. Decreasing distance results in a bigger image, further from the mixers center.
* Submixers now can be moved precisely (temporal position) using the properties panel in the upper track->properties pane.
* Fixed problem where a "pasted" track did not appear at the "top" of all its new siblings...
* Fixed problem where submixer is invisible on track display (arrangement pane), due to it being empty (and shorter or equal to 1 sec long). Empty submixers now snap to a length of 10 seconds, so that they are visible/workable.
* Fixed cut/copy/paste operations so that copied tracks, when pasted, re-appear at the same GLOBAL (project-) position, and not at the same local position.
* Imported track will now be positioned (in the track display / arrangement pane) so that its beginning is aligned with the current project time.
* Up 'till now users had to go to the windows control panel in "Add/Remove Software" to uninstall ZS4. Now this is also possible via an uninstall icon in the startup menu.
* The envelope interpolation has been fixed up with a new (binary search) key frame retrieval function. This hopefully speeds up the track display when envelopes with hundreds of key frames are being rendered into the track strips...
* New export formats added to the t@b media converter (mencoder/sox frontend).
Version 0.940 alpha is now available from the download page.
Changes in this version include the following:
* Introduced Audio Master feature for export (allows all audio in the project to be overridden with an external "audio master", when required)
* 2 new effects added to the video effects/pattern stuff/complete patterns folder, repeat at points in front, and repeat at points in back. These replicate the video signal at a user defined position and frequency.
* The following fixes/changes in the wave tab: when the user presses play in the wave tab, there is a running count of "seconds buffered" while the play button still displays the forward arrow. when the buffering is complete, the play/stop button turns into a square shape and the sound should start playing. If the play button is pressed while buffering is in progress, then buffering will stop and the system will play what ever has been buffered up to that point. Audio preview now also works for mixers (much slower and without wave display)
* Added read support for fourCC "444P"
* More information displayed when exporting
* Released a new encoding utility which has a graphical user interface frontend for command line utilities mencoder and sox, designed to convert non-ZS4 compatible files into ZS4 compatible files. Can also be used to convert files made with ZS4.
