Neat Video 5.5.9 is live
May 11, 2023
We're pleased to announce that the Neat Video 5 OFX plug-in optimized for Baselight is now available.

As you know Baselight systems come in different modifications, including ONE, TWO, and X. Previously, the Neat Video 5 OFX plug-in was able to use all available CPU and GPU computing resources of Baselight ONE systems only. However, on Baselight TWO and X, it could only use the host machine's CPU and GPUs, but not the GPUs of the node machine. This limited the overall performance. Working together with the Baselight team, we have been able to better optimize Neat Video for Baselight in general and to let Neat Video use the GPU of the node machine as well.

The result is that Neat Video can now run about 1.3x–1.9x faster on Baselight ONE machines (with Baselight 5.3.17711 or newer). The speed up on Baselight TWO/X is usually even higher as it is mostly determined by the GPU of the node machine. Beta-tests have demonstrated speed increases up to 4.0x as compared with the CPU-only mode used on the node machines by the previous versions of the plug-in.

We would like to thank Neat Video users who volunteered to test the beta version of the optimized plug-in. The updated version of Neat Video 5.5.9 is now ready for use.

Neat Video 5.5.9 is also introducing support for several new versions of other host applications:

Autodesk Flame Family 2024 (MacOS, both Intel and Apple Silicon)
Autodesk Flame Family 2024 (Linux)
HitFilm 2023 (Windows, MacOS)
Media Composer 2023 (Windows, MacOS)
Resolve and Resolve Studio 18.5 (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
Fusion Studio 18.5 (Windows, MacOS, Linux)
BorisFX Silhouette 2023 (Windows, MacOS, Linux)

Neat Video 5.4. Mac matching has began
Feb 25, 2021

The most important and, perhaps, the most wanted change of this update is the native support for new Apple Silicon Macs added now in two of the Neat Video plug-ins. Also, we have improved support for macOS Big Sur and brought optimizations and compatibility with new versions of several host applications. The list of GPUs that Neat Video can utilize has been extended with several new AMD models.

Support for Apple Silicon M1 Macs (in some plug-ins)

First things first: from now on some of the Neat Video 5.4 plug-ins can work on Apple Silicon M1 Macs natively. The pioneer plug-ins with native support for Apple Silicon M1 Macs are:

Neat Video v5.4 plug-in for Resolve
Neat Video v5.4 plug-in for OFX hosts
Each of these two plug-ins is now available as a Universal Binary that can work on both Intel Macs and Apple Silicon M1 Macs. Their native M1 versions work about 30% faster than the Intel versions running via Rosetta 2 on the same M1 computers.

We continue working to add the same support for Apple Silicon M1 Macs in more of Neat Video 5.4 plug-ins in the coming weeks and months (depending on the availability of the native M1 versions of the corresponding host applications and development tools for those applications).

Currently, we are working on a new version of the plug-in for Final Cut with Intel and M1 support. This plug-in requires more changes than others to support the new Macs. We will make a separate announcement once that plug-in is ready.

Support for macOS Big Sur

All Neat Video 5.4 plug-ins for Mac can work on the new macOS Big Sur. The installers of Neat Video 5.4 plug-ins have been improved to make the installation process smoother in Catalina and Big Sur.

Note: several older versions of macOS (10.9.5–10.12.x) are no longer supported by Neat Video 5.4 for technical reasons. If you need to use Neat Video in one of those macOS versions, you can do that using Neat Video 5.3 (available in your account).

New versions of host applications and GPUs

The newest Resolve 17 hosts are now supported by Neat Video. In addition, the plug-in's code has been optimized to work faster in these new versions of Resolve including:

Resolve 17 (Windows, macOS Intel / M1, Linux)
Resolve Studio 17 (Windows, macOS Intel / M1, Linux)
Neat Video 5.4 adds support for the new versions of three OpenFX applications:

Fusion Studio 17 (Windows, macOS Intel / M1, Linux)
HitFilm Pro 16 (Windows, macOS Intel)
DustBuster+ 13 (macOS Intel)
Neat Video 5.4 also supports the new versions of more hosts:

Media Composer 2021 (Windows, macOS Intel)
Premiere Elements 2021 (Windows, macOS Intel)
Magix Movie Edit Pro 2021 (Windows)
Magix Video Deluxe 2021 (Windows)
Several new AMD GPU models have been added to the list of compatible graphic cards:

Radeon RX 6800 / 6800 XT / 6900 XT (Windows)
Radeon Pro W5700 / W5500 / W5500X (macOS)

Neat Video 5.3 has arrived
Sep 25, 2020

One of the most exciting ingredients of this update for Windows and Linux users is the support for the newest NVIDIA Ampere GPUs. This family has just welcomed three new cards: GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. All these cards have impressive numbers of CUDA cores and support PCI Express 4.0 — the new generation of the serial bus protocol. In addition, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 are equipped with fast GDDR6X memory capable of transferring up to 760 and 935 GB/s respectively. Thanks to these improvements Neat Video 5.3 will work significantly faster with the new GPUs.

Apple users won’t miss out on this release as we have added support for several new AMD cards as well.

The list of the new GPU models added in this version of Neat Video includes:

NVIDIA
Ampere GPUs including GeForce RTX 3070 / 3080 / 3090 (Windows, Linux)
AMD
Radeon Pro 5600M in new MacBook Pros
Radeon Pro 5300 / 5500 XT / 5700 / 5700 XT in new iMacs
Unfortunately, we had to discontinue support for several old GPU models. This had to be done due to the changes in both NVIDIA ’s and AMD’s drivers and development tools. More details on this can be found in the History of Changes.

Of course, not only hardware is affected by progress. Software is also going forward. In fact, a new video editing software package has been recently crafted by BorisFX team. Neat Video is proud to be among the first plug-ins supporting their new Silhouette 2020.5.5+ available on Windows, MacOS and Linux.

Here is the complete list of the new and updated versions of video editing applications Neat Video 5.3 has added support for:

Closer to Perfection — Neat Video 5 is here!
May 7, 2019

If you shoot video, like us, you shoot for perfection and the quest is never-ending! Every new version of Neat Video brings us closer to the ideal of noise-free video. Which is why we’re excited to announce the launch of Neat Video 5 — the fastest, most powerful and most user-friendly version of Neat Video yet.

Let’s take a quick look at the new features, tools and improvements.

What's New in Neat Video 5?
Neat Video has been given an overhaul to improve its performance while adding new visual feedback features and adjustable generic profiles helping to achieve great results easier and faster.

Significant Speed Improvements
The Neat Video 5's noise reduction engine is more efficient and makes better use of the available processing power. As a result, Neat Video processes video frames faster across the board, with up to 3.5 times speed improvement on certain systems. Actual speedup depends on CPU, GPU and OS used:

CPU-based processing
Up to 1.5x faster
GPU-based processing

Windows and Linux

1 GPU: Up to 3.5x faster (2.2x average)
2 GPUs: Up to 2x faster (1.6x average)
MacOS

1 GPU: Up to 2x faster (1.6x average)
2 GPUs: Up to 2x faster (1.7x average)
As measured in Neat Video 5 running with the filter settings matching those of Neat Video 4.

For more benchmarks and more hardware-specific details, check out history of changes.

You can quickly check the speed achievable by Neat Video 5 on your computer by downloading and running NeatBench 5.

Cleaner, Crisper Video
Neat Video 5 has improved the way frames are analysed and processed, which has resulted in a general improvement of noise reduction quality. Neat Video 5 also adds some powerful new features to deal with common imperfections in video.

Flicker reduction
Flicker is a distracting repeated change of brightness. Neat Video 5 includes new advanced flicker filters that can detect and reduce this problem for a more consistent look.

Jitter reduction (jitter of details)
Jitter of details is the distracting trembling of the objects in the scene seemingly distorted by heat haze. This problem is usually caused by video compression. Neat Video 5’s jitter filter detects and combats this effect to create smoother, more natural video.

Improved noise reduction
Reducing digital noise and film grain can be significantly complicated by presence of other imperfections such as flicker and jitter of details. Neat Video 5 uses its new flicker- and jitter-related tools to take into account and where possible reduce those imperfections to make the reduction of regular random noise and grain more accurate. All that together helps to eliminate more noise and retain more details than ever before.

Improved sharpening
Neat Video 5 adds new controls and makes improvements to the already sophisticated sharpening tool. It has been further refined to help users give their clips more definition and bring out the details without the features becoming unnatural or over-processed.

Improved Dust and Scratches filter
Dust and scratches are unwanted contaminations often found on archive film. Detection of those contaminations may be complicated by other imperfections such as flicker also often found in film-based video. The new flicker reduction tools of Neat Video 5 work together with the Dust and Scratches filter. Their synergy allows to identify and eliminate dust and scratches even more proficiently.
More User-Friendly than Ever
The Neat Video team has spent a great deal of time and effort to help users achieve better results easier and faster. As a result, Neat Video 5 has introduced several new features that make the plug-in more user-friendly and efficient.

Easier profiling
Neat Video 5 automatically obtains a better noise sample by using a larger number of frames for analysis — leading to more accurate noise profiles.

Adjustable generic profiles
Creating an accurate noise profile is the first step in quality noise reduction. Where possible, it’s best to build a noise profile using the very clip that needs to be denoised. Since this is not always possible, Neat Video 5 has introduced adjustable generic profiles to help you create a noise profile when the actual clip contains no suitable areas for analysis. This feature offers a good starting point and allows to easily tune the profile to more closely match the actual noise in the clip you’re working with.

New visual feedback tools
Neat Video 5 includes new visual feedback tools helping to adjust filter settings and achieve the best visual results. Specialized visual representations help to tune the amount of filtration applied. New masks help to find the areas that do not receive sufficient treatment.

New playback features
Want to see how the noise reduction results will look like in action? You can! With a new playback feature, Neat Video 5 gives you a live view of the final result directly in plug-in window. Allowing you to experiment and make changes before applying your final settings.

Added a set of generic noise profiles.

A new set of generic noise profiles is intended to help preparing a noise profile in a situation when video contains no frames and areas suitable for analysis by Auto Profile

Added new Second Revision plug-in for Premiere.

New Second Revision plug-in for Premiere uses the newer API of Premiere to overcome bugs of old API of Premiere that caused the following problems:
problems with cut/trimmed clips (incorrect input frames supplied by Premiere)
problems with adjustment layers (incorrect input frames supplied by Premiere)
Notes:
The newer API (and therefore new plug-in) has some limitations of its own: it is necessary to manually prepare sample frames (by clicking a new button) before opening the plug-in window.

Neat Video v4.5
Feb 8, 2017

Neat Video 4.5 makes noise profiling more accurate and helps users to obtain optimum filtration results. This free update (for Neat Video 4 license-holders) offers new and improved noise profiling tools and functionality, as well as enhanced, simplified filter-tuning. It also provides more hardware compatibility for AMD GPUs and adds support for new video-editing applications.

More accurate profiling, with enhanced tools

Version 4.5 offers new tools and functions that help you to create more accurate noise profiles.

A new Profile Assist viewer mode offers a visually enhanced view of the noise within the frame, which helps to quickly identify the area with the strongest noise and the least amount of details.

Version 4.5 allows you to select larger areas for profiling, when available.
Using larger areas makes the profiling of lower frequency noise more accurate. This is particularly useful for large frame formats such as 4K.

Furthermore, the update improves the processing of Very Low and Ultra Low frequencies when using small areas for profiling — increasing accuracy in these ranges.
New features for quick pinpointing of the best filter settings

Neat Video 4.5 has also simplified the process of tuning the noise filters and provided enhanced visual preview tools to achieve the optimum results.

A new Preview Assist viewer mode.
This mode presents a specially enhanced preview emphasizing weak details. Helping you fine-tune the filter settings in such a way as to preserve such details while still reducing the noise.

A new Noise Level Tuning Assist tool.
This tool allows to tweak the Temporal Noise Level using a visually enhanced preview to achieve better results.

A new Slow Shutter Tuning Assist tool.
For clips with repeated frames (or repeated noise), this new assist tool helps you to find the right settings of the Slow Shutter mode using a specially enhanced preview.

A new Spatial Filter Tuning Assist tool.
Neat Video 4.5 also includes the Spatial Filter Tuning Assist tool that helps to adjust the Spatial Filter settings using a visually enhanced preview.

It is now possible to separately assign the Quality Mode for the temporal filter and spatial filter.
This may reduce processing time with minimal effect on quality in some circumstances.

In cases when no frame is initially selected, the plug-in will now automatically select a suitable frame from the beginning of the clip. This helps avoid accidental inaccurate noise profile analysis and gives you one less thing to think about.
Improved compatibility and hardware support

Neat Video 4.5 offers improved hardware support for AMD GPUs.
