| I have been using the 107 for about a week,it is by far the best writer i have used,i use Verbatim x4 media,with absolutley brilliant results,i only burn at x4 anyway,so if my choice of media doesnt burn at x8,it isnt a problem for me. i am going to buy some cheaper media to try as well,as i have heard that it will burm most anything that is put into it,and i dont need x52 cd-rw from it as i have a liteon for this. so it gets the big thumbs up from me. | I bought this DVD Writer about 2 weeks ago and i've burned dozens of DVD's so far without a single coaster. It even works well with crappy blank DVD's. I don't see what all the fuss is about it not being compatible with 8X media as burning it at 4X only takes about 15-20 minutes anyway. What's the rush?? But as a word advice if you plan to burn lots of DVD's- it's best you have a seperate DVD-ROM drive to rip the DVD's because they sometimes rip faster and you won't wear out your burner. | was glad to get this drive when it first came out - burned 50 discs so far at 4x speed, no problems at all (unbranded, white top -R Riteks rated at 4x, +R Infiniti white top media rated at 8x, Vanguard 4 speed white top -R) It's certainly a very steady burner - nice continuous noise from it (as opposed to my Sony DW - U10A which tended to 'whir' up at various times during a burn.) Also, slightly quicker than my Sony at lead in/lead out, probably knocking a minute or so off total burn time.Build quality is excellent - nice strong positive action on open/close - feels very well built. Am happy with it on balace overall. Here comes the but! Paid well over the odds for some Infiniti 8x speed media. Nero 6.3.0.2 shows max burn speed as 4x. Checking on these fora, doesn't seem as though anyone can burn at 8x speed on any media until a new firmware comes out :-( Wish I had postponed purchase of this until media issue resolved and paid a much lower price for it. | I love this drive. I've burned about 10 Ritek DVD-R discs at 4x (any 8x media is too expensive right now!) and I've had no problems at all. I've also burnt about 5 or 6 CDR discs. No coasters. The only reason I give this drive a 9 instead of a 10, is that it only burns CDR/CDRW at 24x, while some DVD writers can burn them at faster speeds (like 40x). But aside from that, it's great!! | I give this writer the thumbs up. It's fast, affordable, and the only true 8x dual format writer available! The only complaint that anyone could possibly have about this drive is the fact that it only burns CD-Rs at 24x. But I mean honestly, who cares. It's a dvd burner! And other then that, 24x is still pretty darn fast. This baby can even burn 32x CD-RWs, even though it isn't advertised as being able to. Of course, you can only burn them at 16x, 20x, and 24x... but still, it means that you can focus on ultraspeed CD-RW media instead of really slow crappy CD-RW media! Don't be confused by the "Highspeed CD-RW" logo on the drive, this baby really can handle the Ultraspeed! I've also done some writing quality checks from media burned on this drive, and I'm very impressed! there is *NO* comparison between the Pioneer DVR-107 and the LiteON 401s or 411s... | I finally decided to go with Pioneer 107(A07) and I ordered it, 2 day air, for $180.00 shipped. I was agonizing among Plextor 780A, Nec ND-2500A and Pioneer a07 for about a week searching all ove the web finding their strength and weakness. Since there is very insufficient number of data for Pioneer 107, I refered to 106 (106 was the best in its class). I don't know if 107 will be like 106 but I'm 90% sure that 107 isn't worse than 106. | I want to know how this drive performs under X8 +R (no -R available now). In Price Watch, you can buy it as low as $170.00.. And I believe there are two versions, A07(retail) and 107(OEM). a A07 seems about $100.00 more expensive than a 107. And I don't like the fact that by the specifications A07/107 can write CD-R with only 24X where others like LiteOn and Plextor writes 40X; Pioneer seems support less CD types than others(it supports no CD garaoke, etc).
