| Did lots of browsing before deciding to get this drive. It only arrived in my country 2 weeks ago and I got hold of one immediately (based on its relatively good reviews) - it's the latest DVD Writer here. Arrived with firmware version 1.09 region free. Upgraded and patched to firmware 1.10. No coasters yet. Burnt 8 data CD-Rs, 5 data CD-RWs, 10 VCDs, 5 data DVD-Rs and 10 DVD-DVD copies, 10 data backup DVDs and 5 DVD-RWs - all no-name brands! | Have had my 107D for just over five weeks now and have backed up 100+ of my dvds using dvdshrink and clonedvd at 4x - not one problem yet! I have not used any firmware upgrades, and only used different types of princo discs. My computer is crap too - 400 Celeron. Very happy with this burner - great price too (in Australia). | Excellent burner. I've been using DVD Shrink to burn DVD back-ups at 4x using SONY DMR47L2 DVD-R media. Used CompUSA brand discs and they worked, but only at 1x. I've burned about ten discs at 4x with stock firmware using the Sony DVD-Rs. Can't wait till the prices drop for DVD media, it gets expensive fast! I also burned a few CDRs at max speed without the slightest bit of a hitch. There's also a $30 rebate on this unit right now so the price is VERY competetive. | Excellent DVD burner very quiet burnt 3.2 GB home movie in 11 minutes using TDK and Shintaro 4x media no coasters. Not much in the way of cheap 8x media available yet to test out a 8x burn. | Just received drive DVR-107D from Dabs and wrote the first DVD(4x)OK from Nero 6. Upgraded to 1.05 firmware (detailed in other comments)and wrote 2 coasters (1 at 8x one at 4x), upgraded to 1.09 and wrote 1 coaster at 4x and one good DVD at 2x. Upgraded to 1.10 from Pioneer site and wrote a coaster at 2x. I thought this drive had underburn protection or something. | I bought Teac DV-W58D driver which I flashed to true pioneer 107. I have used the hacked 1.05 and original 1.10 firmwares. | Bought this unit (DVR-107d) for 187 CDNa about four weeks ago. Tried different types of media. Came 5 coasters out of 25 Ritek x4 dvd-rs. One wasted out of 5 Fuji dvd-r X4. Never did at X8 and never tried hacked firmware. IT IS NOT WORTH IT as you can hardly find a reliable media even for speed X4. Best results at X4 media burnt at X2. Updated the firmware to 1.10 few days ago and tried to record a movie on to Verbatim dvd-rw. First two times the process stopped with an error untill I fully reformated the disc (takes 65 minutes). Never experienced any problems with it before. Bad luck ? Not sure. Bad drive? Could be. Not taking this b ull for that money. Returning the unit this friday. | Very reliable burner, use Nero latest version, with HA! DVD burner offered by Acard Technology in Taiwan. Compatible with 4X Optodisc DVD-R, 4X Prodisc DVD-R, 4X Infosmart DVD-R, 4X UME DVD-R, 4X CMC DVD+R, 4X Ritek DVD-R, 2X Ricoh DVD-RW. Over 100 discs now, and no coasters. Use hacked firmware to burn all 4X discs @ 8X, really nice! Highly recommend! The only issue is the look is not that good compare to the one offered in Japan, A07-J series... | I tryes to burn a dvd with nero at 8x and 4x, nero tels me that the burn will be ap 14 min long, but it takes ap 32 min. to me this means it was only a 2x burn this was wit the original 1.05 firmware and the hacked one, the disk i tryed, was PRINCO 1-4x and an other noname disk. | Burned everything I tried in it yet. 3 differents nonames DVD-R 4x, Princo DVD-R 4X, Maxell 4x + and - . No coaster. I even managed to burn a noname DVD-R 4x @ 8x with the hacked firmware. And it works in both my DVD player :) . I dont know for other countries but here in Quebec, the 107d is only $30.00cdn ($22.00us) more than the Nec 2500a. | i bought the 107D a few days ago, it came with the 1.05 firmware. the main brands of dvd media ive burnt with so far are TDK, shintaro, and ritek with no coasters, i tested the media for PI/PO errors and the burn quality is brilliant. one thing that surprised me is that the drive isnt limited to 2x when ripping dvds. i am very happy with this drive and would recommend it to anyone after a quality dvd burner... | O MY GOD!!! I should have listen to the guy who said "The best... Not!!!" This drive is just too picky for media. I think I'm going to return it. My friend has a oporite 8x that can burn ritek in half the time it takes me. So why did I spend so much more then him???? I think drive should cost less not more, because it does less not more!!! | For everyone having problems buring DVD+/-R media at 8x, here is the answer: http://www.dvd-recordable.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1118 This firmware makes the drive RPC1 region free, removes the 2x rip speed limitation for DVD-VIDEO and enables 8 speed burning to any DVD-R media. I made a couple of backup copies of movies on TDK DVD-R 2X and TDK DVD+R 4X media and they played great on my Philips 953 DVD player. | Have had this drive for 2 weeks not burned any at 8x,even official 8x discs. have tried 7 different makes of discs all to no avail. Crashes when burning + discs(not good). Will wait for firmware to see if it gets any better. I have a nec2500a aswell and thats not done any at 8x either.
