| I purchased the Pioneer 106D less than a week ago, messed up one DVD-R on the first night, then did some research. Four days later, used Nero 5.5. and DVDCXpress to succussfully burn a DVD (or should I say dupl). The writer is definately a smooth runner(so far), and although I attempted burning at max speed, the video and audio quality was 100% using the Memorex 4,7GB DVD-R spindled pack discs Was all I could get at the time). Well, if this is the kind of quality i will get out of the 106D and Memorex discs, then there is no need to look elsewhere. | You can't go wrong with this burner!. Reliable, fast and very quiet. I had my doubts about buying it because it is an Internal unit, and i needed to buy an external enclosure to make it work with my laptop. I bought the aluminum firewire enclosure at meritline.com and the burner at newegg.com, with the black bezel. Not only works flawlessly but also looks so cool!!. | Just got the DVR106 for £118 all inclusive from Dabs.com - only burnt to Maxell DVD+RW so far, but not a problem yet. The drive is very quite in use and seems so much better than most of the normal drives you see. I'm using TMPEnc DVD Author and it works a charm, nice and simple. From all the research I've done (quite a lot) this Pioneer seems one of the most likely DVD burners to actually work on virtually all media. | I have had this drive for a couple of months now and am generally happy with it. I have burned a couple of coasters for no obvious reason (PC just hung during copying with Nero 6). Originally installed it on Windows 98 SE and the drive would only burn at around 2x (even though nero reported 4x). Upgraded to Windows XP Pro (SP1) and the drive burns like a dream - 4x everytime. Unfortunately the drive will only rip at around 2x - dunno if there will be a new firmware that will address this. | Great drive so far. No coasters. Was also considering the TDK 440n due to the black bezel but I eventually bought this one based on the recommendation of a friend. The 440n might also have worked but I'm definitely happy with this Pioneer. Successfully burned +R/-R/+RW from Accu and name brands at all possible speeds from 1x to 4x. | No coasters so far. Have burned DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, and CD-RW. The only complaint so far is the Nero software that came with the DVR-106D will not install properly. There is a stability problem, but I'm not sure if it is caused by software or hardware. I'm lucky there is no coasters yet as it generally occurs after a burn. | I don't care what anyone thinks of me for saying what I felt about a company. Their tech support and customer relations are just as important as their product. Anyway, without Pioneer's help I finally fixed the problem. Thankyou Sm_urff for the tip about the ASPI layer upgrade. I went on 50 different forums to find out the right upgrade. I appreaciate your telling me this. I still do not recommend dealing with Pioneer, however the burner seems to work now. I will retract my last rating and give it a 6 out of 10. | Danniel Isaacs probably needs to pack his entire PC up and return it. This is the most flawless device I have added to my system in the past 4 years. Have not produced 1 coaster. Runs exactly as advertised at all speeds and in all formats, WHEN USING OTHER THAN CRAPPY MEDIA. Even works well on inexpensive media. Have used it with a variety of software DVD XCOPY to NERO 6. | Upgraded from the 104 and the 106 works AWESOME!!! Had problems burning at "true" 2x with 104 and 106 until I switched my operating system from ME to XP. Now my problems are gone and I burn at the advertised 2x and 4x just fine. I use the latest version of Nero6 and I have NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!! | Still give this drive 10 out of 10. Even if their tech support calls someone stupid..:) Have had no problems at all with the drive. | man...your scary.. have you tried,uninstalling their software,and reinstalling nero6. or even updating it to the latest 6.0.0.15. then if not,update your aspi layer,and your OS. maybe some drivers,and last but not least,maybe buy some quality 4x media,and make sure it is 4x. ive seen a few instances of problems with this drive,but there easily resolved. i give mine 10/10.not one problem,perfect burns now all the time,compared to my 105. +R compatibility is a great feature too. | Have this drive now for 2 weeks. Have done many dvd movies without a problem. Updated to firmware 1.7 no noticable difference. Burns CDs, dvd- dvd+ without any problems at all. Did a movie backup with Clone DVD and AnyDvd works perfectly in 3 dvd players: Apex 5131 Aiwa and Sony Players. Cannot tell the backup from the original DVD. Would recommend this Burner. | Great Burner... worked out of the box on Ritek G04 media perfectly at 4x. Recently upgraded to 1.07 firmware. Noticed no difference as of yet. Using DVDshrink / Nero 6 / CopyToDVD / DVDDecrypter. Bought this drive because of the high praise from people I know, and this website. I am more then pleased. Buy this drive you won't regret it! | bought my 106...4 weeks ago for £129 ome...was using instant dvd but takes far too long...switched to clone dvd much much quicker....majority of rips perfect...few with slight gliches in movie...i reckon down to disks (using datawrite yellow)..will be swiching to red or silver as soon as I run out......overall peformace very good.. 106 alot better than 105 (less read errors) Comments posted by rsb from Other, September 22, 2003. | Picked up my 106D from Appollo Computer Systems off of ebay for $160. Made 7 backups with only coaster. First backup I tried with CloneDVD failed. | Just purchased the Pioneer DVD-106d for $157.00. Cant beat it. It is quiet, and has not given me any problems. It was easily installed,and came with the latest firmware. | I have had a 106D for a week now, and I am very impressed with it. I have burnt +R, +RW, and -RW (yet to do -R) and all worked brilliantly. Movies played as good as the originals in my Pioneer 343 standalone (in one case, better than the original). I was using DVD Decrypter, DVD Fab, and Nero 6 running on the good old Win 95 partition of my HD. | Bought this had some problems setting up with nero 6 solved them by uninstalling nero 6 then reinstalling, for some reason I cant see the dvd-r that I have burned in dvd drive not sue whats causing this but iso confirms there files there Iso buster can pick them up but there not in my computer weird it says that theres a cd in drive but no dvd-r only detect cd?
