| Bought this unit a week ago and I've been testing it and so far it's a winner, comments follow (I've downloaded the latest firmware from pioneer): - Reads easily scratched/hard to read DVDs without a glitch. I had this DVD I bought on Amazon and I've never been able to read it either with my HP100i and my Sony DVD player, but I could read it without any kind of slow down with my pioneer. (11/10 since it can read a DVD i've never been able to read anywhere) - Burns fast, tried CD-R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and they all worked fine after being burnt at max speed. - On a minor note, the data copy/rip from a DVD seems to peak at a speed of 2X... may be it's just a firmware issue that is going to be updated. I think it's somehow balanced by the reliable reading of the drive. (-1 point) - Installation was a breeze, no hardware incompatibilities, no software/drivers problems. It worked well right out of the box. After owning a DVD100i (what a miserable piece of crap), I'm happy to have finally found what to seems to be a very reliable drive. Total 10/10. | This is to follow up on my previous comments. I had this drive for over 1 week now and very satisfied with it. Although it is capped at 2x to rip dvd movie, it works perfectly with a DVD-Rom drive. It takes about 35 mins to read 1 disk and 15 mins to write at 4x on a DVD-R. With a DVD Rom (I bought a Lite-on 16x for about $35 at Newegg.com) and it takes only 15 mins to read 1 disk. So, a DVD-5 takes 30 mins to backup, and a DVD-9 takes 1 hour to back up into 2 disks.(with 4x Ritek DVD-R bought at newegg.com for about $1.3/each) DVD-RW works flawlessly as well in this machine (Ritek bought at newegg.com as well). 650 MB mp3 backup on CD takes about 5 mins. Backup with either DVDxCopy, DVDdecryptor, or DVDshrink. All in all, great drive, great price. | I've just bought this player in the 106D OEM version (2 weeks now and little use). It seems like a very good little unit! I've burnt about 10 DVD+R at 4x so far on bulkPaq media and I had one defective DVD+R that was probably due to the media. I have only burnt one movie so far as I was unsure if it would work on my Panasonic RV31EBS player, but it does and it played very well. I have not tested a full capacity movie yet though as I only burnt just over 1hour of video with no surround sound etc. I'm using Nero v6 and have not touched the firmware. So far so good! | Yada------- go to www.rpc1.org,and download the NILS 1.07-12 speed max rip,region free,2speed recording on 1 speed media firmware. thatll solve your problems. and as for Silvius,id say the same i think. that and get rid of 98,no use for ripping and copying dvds,get soemthing like XP or XP pro,and update the firmaware. | I returned my piece of shit Sony DW-U10A in exchange for the DVR-A06 and halleluiah, I have seen the light. The Sony would not burn -R at 4x even with 4 different type of media, but since the switch, I have been able to burn 50+ DVDs at 4x with zero problems so far. Way to go pioneer! | Just got my A06 at JandR.com $180 + $5 S&H, minus $20 rebate. Got a question for you guys: I am using DVDxCopy to backup a movie and it takes sooooo long. It takes 35 mins to read the movie into HD (ripping I guess), takes 15mins writing it, and this is only 1/2 of the movie. Then I have to repeat the same process with the 2nd part of movie, put the original movie in, rip for another 30 mins, burn for another 15 mins. So, takes like almost 2 hrs just to backup 1 movie !! | Bought this dvd-drive for a 135 bucks on pricewatch. I have burned 25 dvd-r's so far and no coasters. Even on my older computer it works perfectly. I'm not sure what some of these idiots are doing when their burning fails but playing quake3 while burning probably isn't a good idea...lol Best purchase I've made. | I replaced a knackered BTC burner with the 106d and so far its wrote to everything ive chucked at it, it hasnt spat a coaster out yet!!!!!!!!. I havent upgraded the firmware and it works a dream wth NERO 5.5.10.54 and works a dream with CLONE 1.2.4.8. The drive is the most quietest I have come across so far and for £125.00 I would say its the best value for money can buy. Well worth it; any body thinking about buying it dont think fucking do it you wont regret it. Excellent work PIONEER. WHO NEEDS PLEXTOR WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THIS FOR A LOT LESS AND ITS DUAL FORMAT. | Ho acquistato il DVR A06 la settimana scorsa. Oggi vengono a ritirarlo per portarlo in riparazione. Non legge più alcun supporto. Ho masterizzato solo un DVD-RW sul supporto contenuto nalla confezione. che cosa sia successo non lo so. Il S.O. (W2K e W98 SE) lo riconoscono perfettamente . firmware 1.05. | I have to say this Drive is THE BEST hands down.....I had a Sony drive and half the time it wouldn't recognize the Verbatim discs...even with a firmware update. I installed the Pioneer A06 / 106 updated the firmwaer to 1.7... bought some cheap dvd-r's off ebay and have had not one bit of trouble.....I will never buy sony again especially after they told me they would have a firmware update to allow my drive to read and write +R as well...they LIED....... | jeez...dont you people read things now.. i said TRY COPYTODVD version 2.36..or above. it works flawlessly,with the 106/D on,well,a really high proportion of players. and like i say,unless your player will support DVD+R/RW discs 100%,then your going to have problems. try vso's programme,then,and see if it works,then say theres something wrong with the 106. and i DID have problems with my 106,it wouldnt write +R/RW media,and when it did,they didnt work. but after speaking to vso,they seem to be the only ones who got their fingers out their arses,and actually solved the problem. one more thing,NERO 6.0.0.19 works flawlessly on +R media as well.finally.! IMO,panasonics dvd players arent really that great on support of +R/RW media anyway.my parents bought one bout 2weeks ago,(a DVDS75EBS player@£130),and its got shit support for them,only things it plays well is -R media,and there mostly shit as well. itll play dvd+Rs but not well and maybe only like once every ten or so times,even then the playback is nothing short of poor and jerky. and like panasonic told me on the phone,not every disc is guaranteed to play in every player,so they took it back. and bought an LG cinema system for not much more ££.and that plays dvd-R/RW,and dvd+R/RW flawlessly. but before you bore me with more tat about your writing flaws,try the vso prog,and then if it doensnt work,then reply.! ok. Panasonic RV31, RV32, E30 ,E50 , cyberhome 402, I have tested in all these,and DVD+R created with the A06 won't play, The DVD+R created with my HP200i played flawlesly on all of them. | actually, i have the same problem he has. i can burn to dvd+rw perfectly. but i have tried 4 different name brands of dvd+r, all of which burn fine, but will not be recognized in any standalone player, and when you put the disc back into the burner, it doenst recognize it. so dont bash people because you havent experienced a problem with your burner. | what>??!!?!? what the hell are you talking about. if your player supports DVD+R,then it will play a dvd+R burnt in this drive. i think that there are software related flaws etc,that will prevent complete compatibility,but as for my players,all of them play +Rs no problem,first generation PS2,cheapo albaDVD55's,X-box,LG5620 home cinema. if you try a programme like NERO 6.0.0.19,or COPYTODVD version2.34 and above,there will be absolutly no problems in playback ***PROVIDING YOUR PLAYER SUPPORTS DVD+R/RW DISCS AND IS CAPABLE OF PLAYING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE*** i wish people wouldnt spout **** about hardware. use good quality media,a good quality programme,and well,a dvd player that will actually support dvd+R,then no problems will occur. i did have a few hiccups with my 106,but now its sorted,with the help of the techies at VSO software(copytodvd). every disc burns fine,and every one plays. try there copytodvd ver2.36 i think the latest is,and its the best programme for the 106/D for compatibility and reliability. | Great drive for DVD-R but beware when you burn DVD+R, it writes them in a book type that has a poor compatibility with many DVD players, these discs won't play on most of the Panasonics except the newer players, they don't even play on the E30 and E50, I called Pioneer to see if the book type field (or mode) can be changed from DVD+R to DVD-ROM, (that is compatible with virtually all players), and they say they don't have a firmware for that and are not planing to release one (in other words, they don't care about +R/RW) if your planning to burn +R or +RW get a burner based on Ricoh drives that let you change modes, or the HP 200i or 300i That writes on DVD=ROM Book type, and you can.t use Nero 5.5.15 and up and 6 even on the HP because it changes the mode fron DVD-ROM to DVD+R Comments posted by Enrique from Other, October 17, 2003. | Just finished a spindle of 25 DVD-R, and this drive performed flawlessly through all operations at max speeds. I'm using the 106D, and for the price, I highly recommend this unit.
