	VCD Hack This hack enables VCD playback Power on the player with no disk in the drive Press "PAUSE" on the remote Enter "1472" on the remote Press the UP arrow three times to 4 4c Press "PROGRAM", "5", "PROGRAM", "5" (the characters 04 EE should now be displayed) Press "ENTER" (the display should flash briefly) Press "RETURN" Power the player off and then back on yep this hack works on the 342 too.

	Hey, I just got my XBS245 from FedEx (kick ass home theater system with DVD/VCR) and that VCD hack worked! I was reading the hacks for all other Zenith and LG DVD's and I guess they all have the same programs or hardware cuz they all use the same hacks. I think Zenith is part of LG or the other way around. I'm taking this to Mexico with me, cuz I study over there, so when I get over there I'll try out the region hack, if that doesn't work I don't know about trying the firmware(burning the CD) cuz I heard that it might mess up your DVD player PERMANENTLY if it's not the right one.

	NO SUCCESS WITH THE FIRST INSTRUCTIONS LISTED HERE. TRY THIS: To play vcd in xbv342 Using remote with no disc in player Turn on power, wait until "no disc" appears on display. Press "pause" Enter the #'s 1,4,7,2. The "EEPROM" numbers should be on the tv screen. Make note of the fourth pair of numbers. Mine was 45. Right Arrow over to the fourth number. Place the cursor under the '4'. Change it to 5 by pressing '5'. The xbv343 display should now read "04 55". Move the cursor under the '5', enter the number '6'. The numbers on the xbv343 display should now read "04 56". Now press "pause", power off and back on and play your vcd. It worked for me.

	on the 342 does this hack work with svcd? i tried playing an svcd that i had burned on this player and it did not work after applying both hacks (my godzilla vcd worked perfectly). i'm sure the disc works because i tried it in a panasonic dvd player (which no hack is necessary for vcd) and it played fine.

	SCVD Hack After reading the VCD hack here and go to read the hacks about the DVB312 mentioned by Rodolfo about a region code hack (which by the way there is no listing for an Oct. 2003). I kept reading and found a SVCD hack. Get to the EEPROM as shown above: Power on, wait for "no disc", press Pause, then press 1472, use the left/right to move to the right spot Original code: 55 53 00 45 14 05 64 00 VCD only hack: 55 53 00 56 14 05 64 00 SVCD only hack: 55 53 00 45 14 55 FE 00 VCD and SVCD hack: 55 53 00 56 14 55 FE 00 Press and hold the 6 until the F shows up. Press and hold the 5 until the E shows up. As before, power off then back on. Put in your SVCD, it'll display "Super VCD" and waiting for you to press play. The FE was also report for the DVB312 to disable the macrovision, but some not mixed results. I can not confirm if it works on this unit either way. All I need now is a hack that will get it to play DVD+R DL discs.
