PostRegion code hack posted by JECA GT, July 15 2006:

1. Power on the player with no disk in the drive.
2. Wait for the "No Disc" message to appear.
3. Press Pause on the Remote.
4. Enter 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9 on the Remote (the word COdE or FF appears on the display).
5. Enter 0 on the Remote (0 = All Regions, 1 = Region 1, 2 = Region 2, etc.).
6. Press Pause on the Remote.
7. Power the player off, wait 30 seconds and then power back on.

NB: If the above code fails to work then once the player has displayed the "No disc" message press Stop before entering the above code.

Played around with variations of the other Zenith/LG hacks for VCD playback found here, and sure enough, it can be done.

To enable VCD playback:
- Power on the player with no disc in the drive.
- Wait for the "No Disc" message.
- Press "PAUSE" on the remote.
- Enter "1472" on the remote.
You should now see "EEPROM" on the screen followed by
eight two-digit hex pairs. This is how mine looked:
"EEPROM 55 53 00 49 06 55 60 40"
What worked was to increment the fourth hex word by one; in other words, change the "49" into a "4A".
- Move the cursor under the 9, then press and hold down the "1" button on the remote for a few seconds to change it to an "A". Now it should say "4A". [The "PROGRAM" key trick doesn't seem to work for entering hex digits A-F on this player.]
- Press "ENTER" on the remote (this may be optional)
- Press "PAUSE" on the remote
- Power off the player and power it back on again.

The player should now play VCDs, at least it worked on mine. [I also noticed that this also caused a new item ("PBC") to appear in the setup menus.] Tried an SVCD, but it didn't work. VCD 2.0 menus did work.
Other hex pairs tried included 5A and 4B (caused VCDs to be recognized, but wouldn't play unless you hit a navigation button first), and FE and FF (VCDs played, but the LCD screen shifted into a monochrome mode).

The region code hack listed above ( 3 1 4 1 5 9 ) does not work on the newest players. It does work on players sold as recently as Dec 2006. "Pause 1472" still takes you to the firmware setup option, so it appears they just updates the code.

Follow the instructions in the site below to burn a CD with the downloaded file. Play in your player and select the region. Just did it on mine with manufacture date of June 2007 and it worked (after the code route didn't)!

I had the same problem with the remote control code, so I tried the CD-ROM route posted above.

It worked as smooth as silk. For the record,I have a Zenith DVP615, manufactured Dec 2007, by LG, and bought at Best Buy.

I used the LG 5000 series firmware (burned to CD-ROM as instructed) found at this link:

Thank you for the unlocking tip using the firmware. It works great. Download the zip file lg5000 from the link. You will then have to unzip the file lg5000 to extract the folder RMTM0000, but DON'T open the folder RMTM0000 any further before burning onto CD (I made the mistake of doing that and wasted an extra CD-R!). That is, burn the entire folder RMTM0000 on CD and then pop CD into the player. Now, turn on the power of the player.

Have your remote control ready to press the new Region Code 0. When region selection is done, press 'PAUSE' but the player will continue spinning the firmware CD inside unless you press the open button to remove the CD.

Good luck!
