The information in quotes is cut and pasted from
www.amazon.co.uk
on their page containing instructions for the Philips 625:
"Make Your Philips DVD Player Multi-region Capable
In a few easy steps you can turn your Philips DVD player into a multi-region capable
machine; then you can enjoy DVDs from Amazon.com, Amazon.ca or even Amazon.co.jp.
An NTSC capable television may be required to view DVDs purchased from outside the
UK.
Instructions
1. Open the DVD player disc tray
2. Press 9,9,9,9,0 on the remote control (wait a second between key presses)
3. Close the DVD player disc tray
Notes:
the above code will turn your player into what is called "region-free". If you require
the player to be a single region, for example region 1, then simply repeat the process
and replace the "0" with a "1". This may be required if you have trouble playing
DVDs purchased from outside the UK that have Region Code Enhancement technology on
them. These titles are in a minority and you will find a substantial amount of titles
will play without the need to change region. Please note that switching between regions
can only be performed a maximum of 25 times before the player is locked on the 25th
region selected. Our recommendation is that you set the player to region 0 and change
to a specific region when the need arises."
I don't know if the 25-time limit applys to newer Philips/Yamaha firmware, but I
was able to successfully play RCE DVDs after making it multi-region compatible. So
choose 0 and leave it alone! In case some of you are curious, I already tried 99999
and it didn't change the region whatsoever. So just stick with 99990 and you're ready
to go!
Best regards,
Big C

hack unsuccessful on Yamaha "Natural Sound" DVR C300 5 disc DVD player. Tried the 9,9,9,9,0.

Any other suggestions? I know it's an old system, but still works for our purposes (except for only playing Region 1)...

Thanks

I found the "hack" to make the Yamaha "Natural Sound Home Theater" 5 disc DVD player (DVR-C300, but seems to work with similar players) to play "Region Free"!

Turn ON
eject TRAY
enter 9,9,9,9,0
press STOP 4 times
close TRAY

It's ready to go! My player was Region 1, now it plays Region 3. (I haven't tried other regioned DVDs, but I'm assuming this works for all.)

Good luck!

p.s. I used the remote control to do this.
