i just purchased the "black" model of this player, and the box said it was for region (1) in north america. i followed the hack instructions that steve posted, and instead of putting a "0", "1", etc........ i put a "9", and now i find i can play my pal region 2, and my ntsc region 3 and 6 dvd's without having to reenter the region code. now if i can just find a macrovision hack. | |||

I purchased a new Yamaha DVD-S657 from A&B Sound in Edmonton, Canada for $214cad. The above mentioned hacks of (open tray) (99990) (enter) did not work. What did work was (open tray) (99990) (play). Region codes have been disabled (only tried with R2) and PAL R2 discs now play without problem on my NTSC only TV. | |||
