above hack does not work, this is the correct hack for the Toshiba SD-6980. Steps - Power off and on the Player - Press the repeat button - Enter code 76884 - You should now see a green number showing current region setting - Key 9 for region free (or whatever region you want it set to) - Open the tray - Power off - Power on You now have a region free player! Enjoy. CC

I would like to great the two geniouses who gave the community glorious hacks to make the Toshiba SD-6980 zone free. I have just purchased one on July 14 2006 in the US (zone 1), I have tried both hacks several times and was not able to make it zone free. After some research, it appears that this Toshiba player seems to be made by Samsung. But the hacks for the latest samsung DVD players do not work either. Conclusion 1: Do not buy this player expecting a zone free player. Conclusion 2: Before posting make sure you have REALLY tried it, and you are not posting for the fun of it. Phil

Charles, I read your other post about this hack in the AVS forum. Since your DVD is region 4, this code you used may in fact work. However, for Region 1 DVD players, it does not work, and other codes that were used for other Samsung DVD players, including region 1 codes, do not work for this DVD player either. If you have the contact for Toshiba that someone can talk to regarding region 1 DVD players, that would be very helpful.

In order to be able to input the unlock codes it might be necesary to modify a jumper. Can somebody with a region 4 player post a picture of the firmware chip region? For region 1 looks like this: http://forum.softpedia.com/uploads/1161879176/tn_gallery_74904_734_511190.jpg

I'd like to confirm that the hack posted by Charles worked like a charm. Once successfully applied, I read the paperwork which had a 'please read first' sheet. On this sheet was the exact same hack posted by Charles. FYI, my player was also a Region 4 player.... |
