Bought this player yesterday, and was dissapointed not to find any hack for it, however, after spending several hours trying hack from other players, have been able to apply the hack for SD3980 to the 4980... heres how to proceed: 1. Press the Open button on your remote control to open the drive tray 2. Press the 2 button on your remote control 3. Press the 4 button on your remote control 4. Press the 0 button on your remote control 5. Press the 3 button on your remote control 6. Press the 9 button on your remote control 7. Press the 6 button on your remote control 8. Press the 0 button on your remote control 9. Press the Enter button on your remote control to change the region to 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback 10. Press the Open button on your remote control to close the drive tray 11. Power off the DVD player 12. Power on the DVD player Worked on mine. Was able to play region 4 DVDs. Hope it works for you!

I'm really sorry, but I found that this hack did not work.I tried four times.I bought this dvd player because a reviewer said that his came out of the box region free.Mine did not. I have also read that this player will not play copied discs, mine will.I use memorex x4,dvd-r. Also if the above hack causes your dvd player to not play regular discs properly, simply press the clear button on the remote while the dvd player is on.

The hack listed above by Milton is flawless...except on burned DVD's. You only get limited playback on most burned DVD. I will relist the Hack as follows.. 1. open button on DVD drive tray. 2. 2 button. 3. 4 button. 4. 0 button. 5. 3 button. 6. 9 button. 7. 6 button. 8. 0 button. 9. Then the enter button access all of the region codes...set it to 9 for all regions. 10. open button. 11. power off DVD player. 12. power on DVD player. Then you should be set and ready to go. I used a region 2 DVD and it was perfect.
