1. Power on the player. 2. Open the disk tray. 3. With the remote, enter the numbers 9 8 7 9 and then press 0 (for region 0, or multiregion). A prompt at the upper right hand corner of the start screen should tell you that the player has been set to region 0. 4. Close the disk tray. 5. Power off the player and then power it back on. Good luck!!!

It works, And How! Read through about 70 dvd player hacks first to see which was the easiest, while still on at least a (semi)reputable brand of dvd player. Went to Best Buy, bought an SD-4100, plugged it in, did the code above on the remote and ZING! Region Free! Couldn't have gone more smoothly. I did try to make it region 9 first but it didn't recognize 9 so I just did the above hack as is and region 0 worked for me. Watching Top Gear in Wisconsin currently. Sweet!

I bought mine at Best Buy too. Tried to unlock it using the same combination and it worked at first. However the next day the dvd player just refused to play any dvd. I tried to reset it again to the "0" region, however it still didn't work. Could please anyone advise what I can do? Thanks in advance.

Worked just fine for me -- haven't seen the problem of it working one day then not working the next. Thanks very much to the original poster.

This hack worked perfectly. I had a purchased DVD from the UK that only played on my laptop, not good enough for family viewing. PS3 has no hack. But my cheap little Toshiba had one...and so easy too. I searched the web for an answer and was blessed to be linked from an article on WISEBREAD.COM. One twist: Everything works as directed but if I shut off the DVD Player it resets back to normal. So I guess I have to enter the code with each viewing. But this is a small issue for such an easy fix. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

This is to confirm that the following hack worked on Toshiba SD-4100KU purchased in US at Best Buy on Sept 3, 2009.

NalleBjörn can also confirm that the following hack worked on Toshiba SD-4100KU purchased at Best Buy on November 27th, 2009. The sticker on the back of the player indicates that it was manufactured May of 2009. 1. Power on the player. 2. Open the disk tray. 3. With the remote, enter the numbers 9 8 7 9 and then press 0 (for region 0, or multiregion). A prompt at the upper right hand corner of the start screen should display "The Reg No. was changed to: 0". 4. Close the disk tray. 5. Power off the player and then power it back on. Before the hack was applied, with a region 2 DVD, the player reported on the screen as "Wrong Region" and "Err" in the LED display. After the hack it was verified that the player would play disks with regions 0, 1, 2, and 4.

Picked up a second one of these today (11/29) at Best Buy. It's a SD4100KU listed as being manufactured in September 20009. Works great, just as it did on the first one of these I got.

Wow unbelieveable! This worked great. Ironically last year I bought two code free DVDs for hundreds of dolloars. This year they both stopped working within 30 days of each other. Go Figure? Too late to return to world-import.com. I found this hack and purchased this Toshiba DVD at Best Buy on sale for $39.99. It actually worked now we can watch all our German DVDs on this much cheaper player. |
