To "unlock" all-region capabilty, all I had to do was keep the tray OPEN and press, 2403960. It took me to a region setting menu.I pressed "enter" several times to "9" which is all-region. I could also just enter "9" on the remote. Credits to SL (RI) | |||

this hack dose not work it makes the dvd player bad after a while it stoped playing after 2 or more dvds you play, i have tryed it with like 5 dvd player now, if you want your dvd player not to work then use this hack, and bestbut will not take my dvd player back now | |||

It is a software disc mod. The remote hack posted above only works with the 3980 and older toshiba players. I saw someone at a local store modify one with a software disc. It works as I have purchased it. But I don't know where to get that disc. If anyone has it, that would solve our mystery. | |||

This may not work on all models 1. Power on and open the tray 2. Enter: 2, 4, 0, 3, 9, 6 and 0 3. Press the required region number (9 = region free) The hack does work, but keep in mind that no menu pops up, you just press the desired region number after the code. So region free would be: 2-4-0-3-9-6-0-9 | |||

I've tried this hack and it works great! There is actually a visual confirmation that the code has been entered properly. As soon as you key in the region number you want, it will appear on the top right of the screen for about a second. What's nice about this hack is that it can always be reversed. Just enter the code again and change the region back to which ever you are in. | |||

The 24039609 hack works great. Also, there IS on-screen recognition of the hack. After you press the last "9", you should see "9" appear in the upper right hand corner. | |||

'REGION CODE FREE' HACK ON A 'REGION 1' TOSHIBA SD-3990SC BUILT 09/2006 ****This seems to take care of what seemed to be 'region code unbreakable SD-3990 units' manufactured in the fall of 2006, the problem being hypothetically attributed to a 'firmware upgrade'.***** ;-) Hurray! After browsing thru all Toshiba DVD hacks, I was able after 3 hours of reading and trial and error to unlock it using the provided Toshiba SE-R0213 remote on my 'Made in China' Toshiba SD-3990SC DVD PLAYER. The previously published standard hacks did NOT work on my Sept 2006 SD-3990. It was great fun. Afterwards. ;-) For the record, the manufacture date is 'September 2006 CZ' and the SN:#MC110A006864. My Toshiba SD-3990 remote bears the parts number SE-R0213. Inside the player, the chip is a ZORAN ZR 36882ELCG A1U6BGP0626XX Vaddis 882 and there is lots of free air in there between the tiny boards, believe me. But there is absolutely no need to open it in hindsight. I was able to get inspiration from previously published Toshiba's DVD region code hacks and remote control steps (to see the firmware version); I came up with a hybrid hack sequence which unlocked mine on the spot! How to do it: 0-BEFORE THE HACK: a zone 2 dvd gives the 'incorrect region code' message 1-REMOVE ANY DISC 2-SD-3990 DVD PLAYER: POWER OFF 3-SD-3990 DVD PLAYER: POWER ON wait for 'no' to appear on player LCD 4-REMOTE: OPEN TRAY 5-REMOTE: ANGLE (this is the new previously unpublished SD-3990 region code hack step) 6-REMOTE: 2, 4, 0, 3, 9, 6, 0, 9 (ONLY AT THAT LAST DIGIT DOES APPEAR A BLUE 9 SQUARE AT TOP RIGHT!!!!!) 7-REMOTE: CLOSE TRAY 8-SD-3990 DVD PLAYER: POWER OFF 9-SD-3990 DVD PLAYER: POWER ON 10-AFTER HACK: A France zone 2 'Noce blanche' DVD plays perfectly so does a 'Mountain men' zone 1 DVD. I do not know if this hacks works on SD-3990 built before 09/ 2006 for which hacks were already published here. ENJOY- Profitez-en! I wish many take advantage of this hack. Let me know! | |||
