PostRegion code hack posted by Riz-man, September 29 2008:

Okay, I spent a couple of hours looking for a way to turn my DR-5100x into a multi regional player. I got the player free and it was set to region 2.

I noted many posts on the Internet that said hacks for other Targa DVD players would work for this model but I found none that worked.

I found some posts on another website about downloading some file off a website, burning it to a CD and running it on the player. The problem was that these posts didn't say where the file had to be downloaded from. Then I found a few that provided the link and low and behold, the websites was no longer operational.

I finally tracked down a post that claimed that you download a file from a Targa website. Once run, you get to play region 1 DVD's in addition to region 2.

After further research, I found this website and the following link will take you directly to the download page (or it should).

http://www.service.targa.co.uk/faq.php?lang_id=2& ... mp;func2=2

If by the time you read this post the link is no longer valid, try contacting me and I’ll send you the file to burn (if I still have it).

You get the option to download in French or Finish.

I chose French.

The French file has an English readme text file that explains, step by, step what you do.

Follow those instructions but basically, you download the file, burn it to a CD (I chose CD-R) and then run it on the player.

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS...DON'T JUST DO WHAT I SAID.

A word of warning. After you run the file, the player is converted to French. You will need to go into set up and change the settings back to English. If you're hopeless at French, go into set up before running the CD and find where the language option is in English. Memorise the exact location and then go there when it's all in French and make the necessary change.

Upon setting it all back to English, I have discovered that I can play not only region 1 (tested a Ben 10 DVD) and 2 (Gladiator)....but also 3 (Final Desitnation) and 4 (Battlestar Galatica Season 2). I suspect it's completely multiregional now.

One final note, it appears that this software is not a hack - according to the website it required for the following reason...

"This firmware version solves the following problem:
In france the dvd-recorder does not find all channels. The channels between 60 - 69 are missing."

It seems an unintended consequence of running it is the multi regional ability.

Ulitmately, who gives a toss. Woo hoo!!! Good luck.
