I was helped enormously by other posts on this site. This hack incorporates info from previous hacks of the RDR-HX720 and RDR-HX710 The RDR-HX720 can be made region free by using a Palmtop (in my case the Clie PEG-S360). I used the OmniRemotePro 2.15 (free trial version)from Pacificneotek installed in the Palm, and the following converter (http://www.pacificneotek.com/software/CCFCnvt.zipconvert) to convert the following .ccf file (http://www.xs4all.nl/~pbonnet/sony.zip) to .pdb Before you save your conversion, select the smallest size and centered view, and select the 00000B30 panel and click the arrow to port the panel to palm and save. Then install the .pdb file with hotsynce, open Omniremotepro and change the database to the one you have just installed. If the database does not appear it is likely because you did not port the panel to palm and save. With the HX-720 in standby mode (you must already be in command mode dvd_1), press sequentially 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 and you will get the WELCOME message. Then again 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 and the HX-720 will go back in standby mode. Your DVD recorder is now region free. Please note: player must be in command mode dvd_1. Information on how to set the player to command mode dvd_1 is on page 19 of the manual. In brief: Select ‘Others’ from the setup menu and press enter. Select command mode and press enter. Select command mode DVD1. Set the command mode for the remote so that it matches by holding down the enter key and pressing ‘1’ for more than 3 seconds. | |||

I tried the last hack from Bulent Akman. But I used my Ipaq pocketpc with sony.ccf and set the command mode to dvd1. But i did not get the welcome messenge and the dvd player did not turn on it self. I have to manual turn it on and press sequentially 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 again. But at the end my HX720 is region code free :-)) | |||

Used a combination of David's and Thaipan's. Loaded the TV Remote and Sony ccf on my Qtek. Like Thaipan I got no automatic WELCOME message after applying the first sequence. No result. Then I read Thaipan's message and tested again. This time I got the WELCOME message but after the procedure still could not play 'foreign' DVDs. Tested a few other remote programs, which turned out not to support ccf files, so returned to test one more time the TV Remote program David mentions. No WELCOME message, but this time I could play DVD's. So keep trying if it doesn't work first time. Thanks to all for this help. |
