I used the Region Code Hack posted by JEdison, June 13 2005 for the Sony RDR-HX710 and it worked fine with one alteration: apply the 12345 hack with the machine ON. And set the command mode to DVD1 (see Sony manual Page 124). I used a OneforAll Kamelion 6 URC-8060 remote control. Here is a version for the One-For-All (as posted by JEdison): When the "magic button" is referred to on other posts - I have replaced it by "SET" as that is the corresponding button on the One4All "Video Expert" and other less advanced One-For-All remotes. Also, others write "until the rabbit comes out" - on the Video expert the LED blinks twice. Prepare the Remote - One-For-All: 1. Select DVD button on remote 2. Hold SET (or magic) button until the LED blinks twice ("rabbit comes out") 3. Enter device code 0533 Next, you need to program buttons 1..5 with the following codes: 1 = 189, 2 = 255, 3 = 095, 4 = 221, 5 = 079 To program the buttons, do the following: 1. Hold SET button until the LED blinks twice 2. Press 994 (LED blinks twice) 3. Press (not hold) SET - LED blinks once 4. Enter the 3-digit code plus the button to assign it to: 1891 (this programs button 1 = 189) LED blinks twice. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each of the remaining keys (2->5), using 2552, 0953, 2214, 0795 in place of 1891. Reprogram your DVD player/writer: 1. Turn player on and Remove disk 2. Press 1,2,3,4,5 (pause briefly between each button and make sure LED of remote flashes) - on Sony RDR-HX650 "TIMER OK" is displayed Your DVD player/writer should now accept DVDs from any region (I have tried with Region 1 & 2). If it does not, then add this extra step (#3) to the "reprogram" process: 3. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - player shuts down and you're ready! I have also seen some people suggest pressing 1122334455 (really make sure that the player/writer receives the necessary code), that did not work for me - I had to use 12345. | |||

I finally got the hack posted by hasenkamp on january 05, 2008, working fine. But it only works provided you set the command mode of SONY RDR-HX650 to DVD1. Then the code on the OneforAll Kameleon 6 URC-8060 is actually 0533. And finally the reprograming is to be done, while the DVD player/writer is on. "TIMER OK" will then appear nicely on the machine. You're all done, as region 1 & 2 DVD will be accepted. | |||
