The Sony NS-series remote control hack also works for this player, just tested and made mine region-free. Enter 11 22 33 44 55, player says "SUCCESS", and again 11 22 33 44 55. Search for other NS-series players hacks in here to get further instructions. | |||

Here is how I got it region free after several tries. If you have tried add hack code from http://dev0_2000.tripod.com/, you should reset your player from display menu(choose setup and reset), after reseting press clear so setup program does not run. Shutdown your player from Sony's remote control. Press 1,2,3,4,5 and player shows "SUCCESS", then press 1,2,3,4,5 again and player will shutdown. In the back of player my dip setting was Selectable. I think main reason why adding region hack failed was that I had some settings already in sony's memory. I hope those who has not succeed yet. | |||

Make one more button in OmniRemote and train it with the Power On/Off function of the DVD remote. Use this button to see if you have your PDA aligned correctly and that you are using the right distance to the DVD player in order to send signals from the PDA. If you can switch the DVD player on and off with the OmniRemote button keep your PDA in this position to send the other codes. Now press the buttons in exactly this order 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5 (you have to press the buttons twice, pressing them only once did nothing on my player) The player should display SUCCESS in the display window and power on. Now repeat the sequence from above 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5 and the player should power down. After switching it on again, my player was region free. | |||

My apologies, for some reason the first part of my post got sliced off. Here is how it starts: I could not get the hack found on http://dev0_2000.tripod.com/ to work with my Sony DVP-NS930V. Maybe my model (purchased in May 2004) has a new firmware on it, I don't know the exact reason. What did work for me to make it region free is detailed below: Tools used: Sony Clie TG-50 OnmiRemote software I made a simple interface with 5 buttons in OmniRemote, trained those buttons once with any function of the remote from the DVD player (it doesn't matter which functions you train, for example Play). | |||

I used the One-For-All 4 (URC-7740) remote to make my Sony DVP-NS930V region free. Just follow the steps below. First, prepare the following (this makes sure your remote is configured for your sony DVD player): 1. Press the DVD button on the remote 2. Press and hold the magic button until the led flashes twice. 3. Enter the device code 0533 Now we need to program buttons 1 till 5 with the following codes, read below for instructions: 1 - 00189 2 - 00255 3 - 00095 4 - 00221 5 - 00079 This is how you program those numbers on the buttons 1 till 5 of the remote: 1. Hold magic button until the led flashes twice. 2. Press 994. 3. Press magic once (don't hold). 4. Enter 5 digit code from above. 5. Press button (1 till 5) where to program it, the led should flash for a longer period of time now. This indicates that the button has been programmed. 6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all keys. Now, the actual hack of the DVD-player: 1. Remove disk, put player on standby. 2. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - SUCCESS is displayed and player starts up. 3. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - player shuts down and BINGO! I can now play any region 1 and 2 DVD with or without RCE. | |||

I used a hack described here: http://www.selen.org/sonydvd.html However, I used the IrDA port on my laptop and I thus want to add som extra comments here, sharing the success! :)) - Downloaded the winsamp software found here (thanks for an excellent software!): http://www.veg.nildram.co.uk/remote.htm - Downloaded the "remote.txt"-file found here: http://www.selen.org/files/REMOTE.TXT - I used my notebook's infrared port to transmit the IR-signals. Just be sure that the IrDA-port is activated (I hade to do this in the BIOS setup), no extra drivers needed on my OmniBook notebook. - I transferred the program to a bootable floppy disk and rebooted the laptop with the disk. - I had to run the command "winsamp c4", to start the program with the COM 4 port as the active port. No other ports seemed to work. It was not possible to use the COM 4 port in windows, only COM 3, so you have to do this from MS-DOS with the floppy! - In addition, be sure to reset your DVD-player (display meny - setup - reset), otherwise you might nok succeed. In addition I had the SCAN SELECT button in "interlaced" mode. I am not sure if this is important, but just in case... - Finally, when the DVD player was turned off with the remote, with no DVD in the tray, and with the "winsamp" program running on the computer, I imported the "remote.txt" file by pressing "r" on the keybord. The "buttons" 1-5 should then be filled with coding. - Then, press the "buttons" 1-5 in the winsamp program by hitting the enter button on the computer with the infrared port directed to the DVD player, and the cursor to switch between the "buttons". After hitting the 5-button, wait for the "succeed"-message on the display (should appear after a second or two). Then press "buttons" 1-5 once more, and the DVD turns off after pressing the 5-"button". - Now, my Sony DVD-NS930V are able to play at least both region 1 and 2, which originally was coded for region 2. Wheter other regions works as well, I don't know. Thanks to other hack information that helped me! I hope I help others that want to use their laptop IrDA port with this message, du to that I had some trouble myself, figuring out how to use the IrDA port right. Good luck! |
