Tried the directions found at: http://www.selen.org/sonydvd.html and regardless of the sequence (once/twice, on or stanby) the only result I have had is that the DVD powers up and goes back to standby. The message remains the same, WELCOME and it remains region1. Thought I'd pass that along.

I just would like to let very clear that my dvd player is NTSC and I got it from COSTCO at EL CENTRO CALIFORNIA USA as far as I know US transmision system IS NTSC. I have allready play region 1,2 and 4 in the dvd player. Use 0 and Return to return player to default region settings Press P-Mode and Return to play DVD's with the selected region, auto-switching is Off Press Audio and Return for auto-switching On Press Angle and Return for MacroVision On Press Subtitle and Return for MacroVision Off This model of dvd player goes into standby mode when you turn it off via remote control. Hi, ALL. DVD-player Sony DVP-NS725P r1/r3/r2-Japan don,t have solderless upgrade (Example: PDA, DESKTOP, IRC, CD - R and etc....) in variant MULTIREGION, and NTSC and PAL-enable, and Macrovision OFF. The modification of this player is done only through special Sony-Data-service-cable and special firm software through plugs On main-board (plug CN-103) and on IR-board (plug CN-405). Best regards Fred

I modified the hardware of NS725P, and attached a switch so that I can select R1 or R2. But theoretically, you can choose any region by the hardware modification. The modification itself is pretty easy if you have a knowledge of electronics and a few skills of soldering. It's just mounting/replacement of a few chip R, and attachment of wire to switch. No special IC is required. I just bought a switch at Radioshack.($2 or $3) But I don't recommend ordinary people try it. If you can understand what following web site explains, pls try and enjoy. Though, unfortunately it is mostly written in Japanese. http://www.asaka.ne.jp/~kei/NS530.htm Thanks Mason
