To convert the Samsung DVD-V5500 player to Multi-Region playback make sure you have no disc or tape in and then Turn it on. When the display shows "no disc"…... 1. Press the DVD button on your remote control so the Samsung DigitALL logo appears on the screen 2. Press the SUBTITLE button on your remote control 3. Using your remote control enter the code: 7, 6, 8, 8, 4 4. The current region should be displayed on the screen. (eg "4") If this doesn't happen then turn off and then on and try again 5. Press the 9 button on your remote control for Region free 6. Press the SUBTITLE Button on your remote. 7. Press the Open button on your player 8. Close Tray. 9. Power the unit off, then power the unit on again 10. Enjoy DVD as it should be, Region Free :-)

I can confirm that the procedure posted by shaddo works on my Australian Region 4 Samsung DVD-V5500. If you bought this unit in another region you might try some of the other Samsung codes, such as: Region 1 coded type: 2 9 3 3 4 Region 2 coded type: 3 8 7 6 7 Region 3 coded type: 5 6 7 3 2 Region 4 coded type: 7 6 8 8 4 Region 5 coded type: 5 3 8 1 4 Region 6 coded type: 2 4 4 6 2 (I found these codes on the Samsung DVD-S224 hacks page: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Samsung+DVD-S224 .)

New Samsung DVD-V5500 purchased 9/3/2005 at Fry's in Southern California does not respond to [Subtitle]##### or [Angle]4327 hacks. Version number on motherboard is DVD-V5500/XAA Rev01 AK41-00334A

V5500 purchased in Australia Oct 2005 I had problems with hack given by shaddo, until I turned on Screen Messages. The default is Screen Messages off and no hack would work. Turn on Screen Messages using Menu Setup Screen Messages. Then follow hack steps for a region free player!

I purchased Samsung DVD-V5500 from circuit city in Southern California in December, 2005. Tried all the hacks and failed! I had more research on the web and found the remote control is in the US (Model#: 00021C) and Australia (Model#: Unkown) is different!! (If you look at the user manual for Australia and the US on the Samsung site, you can tell the differences)I believe that is why the hacking code is in Australia works but not in the US.. Also I found my DVD-V5500 Model Number is DVD-V5500/XAA. I want to know Australia mode number! I believe that the people is in the US need to find out own hacking code.. I will try..

I can verify mike stark's hack. Used it on a Samsung DVD-V5450 with success! It was a region 2 player (Sweden). (I now just have the rca -> toslink conversion left...) |
