With the Aiwa remove ... it works with *any* that has the sleep and clock buttons. I've personally tried it with 3 aiwa remotes ... Just note, you have to hold down the function button, and tap SLEEP (you'll get some diagnostic info and the firmware version ... mine's 6.10 and plays SVCDs fine (I've heard of limitations, but have never encountered them personally). Anyway ... Just hold the function button, hit SLEEP then CLOCK three times.

This hack does indeed work. I was doubting it at first - I mean, it sounds crazy to think that a remote intended for a stereo could be used to set region settings on a DVD player, but I was curious and had to find out for sure. I scanned Ebay and came across a Aiwa RC-6AS14 remote for $10US. Sure enough, using the procedure listed above set my Samsung P421 into region free mode. I tested this on 2 summer 2003 Japanese DVDs to verify. One was a REGION 2-9 promotional disc and the other was a normal issue REGION 2 Japanese DVD. Both played perfectly. I can't say thanks enough to the person that found this hack!

Applying this hack still failed to make the player work with disks created for PAL TV system. The region code is not the only obstacle, it seems. I went to the trouble of buying an aiwa remote, but it did not help!
