Hack did not work on P191 purchased from WalMart in July 2009. Pressing these keys gave me the 'function not available' red crossed-out circle symbol.

I found a successful key sequence to unlock my samsung dvd p191: With no disc in the tray, turn the power on. On the samsung screen it will say "no disc" Grab the remote and press: -repeat -fast rewind -next chapter -fast forward -previous chapter -play A grid should appear on the screen with numbers in boxes, some highlighted, some not. Using the arrow keys and the enter key, move around and turn off all the boxes except the one with a number 9 in it. Press play to validate the changes. Your player will save and turn off. When you turn it back on, it should play DVDs from any region. Nothing else worked for me, good luck with your own.

Purchased Samsung DVD-P191 from Walmart on 07/28/09. Attempted hack from "youlweb" and got to the grid box. Highlighted numbers were: 3,8,19,21,25. Highlighted box #9 and unhighlighted all other boxes. Hit Play to save and the unit powered off. Turned player back on and could not play any DVDs. I am glad I wrote down those five numbers. Hack did not work.

Tested on a Region 4 DVD-P191 purchased in Colombia / South America. Hack described in first post works fine. Didn't even need to push the eject/close button once the sequence was finished and the number 9 appeared on the left top side of the screen. Make sure you don't mistake the FR (fast rewind indicated by 2 arrows pointing to the left) button located beneath the "Disc Menu" button with the arrow left button located beneath the "Menu" button.

Hack did not work. I am posting the results again of this hack as it didn't work for me. I followed instructions, which got me to the grid box and highlighted #9 "only" and still no luck. Any DVD would not play. Would it be possible to highlight all the boxes including #9 in the grid box? I should mention that the DVD-P191 is a Region 1 DVD Player.

None of these hacks worked for me. I'm in region 2 The hack in which one can highlight digits left me with a player that does not play dvd's at all. It would be usefull to publish the digits that should be highlighted in the different regions. If you do not change them, there is no danger.

player bought in region 2 turn on the dvd without disc in the tray press repeat (not repeat a-b) press fast forward (button under the zoom-button) press fast rewind press fast forward press up press down 9 appears in top left corner! This hack works for me.

Could you then look in the grid that youlweb above has brought about and post the digits that are highlighted. Then I will see if this sheds some light on the matter for all regions.

That confirms what I think. 3,8,19,21,25 make it a region 1 player. Now I'd like to have the digits of a player that is region free. If those work on my machine, it might be a hack for these players everywhere.

I just bought a DVD-P191 (region-1) from Wal-Mart. I had tried all posted hacks. The hack posted by youlweb on July 28 2009 was the only one that worked for my player. I tested my player before I applied any hack. It only playable DVDs were region 1. It refused all my region 3 DVDs. -repeat -fast rewind (below the DISC MENU) -next chapter (above the RETURN) -fast forward (below the ZOOM) -previous chapter (right above the MENU) -play By default, 3, 8, 19, and 21 were highlighted. The 25 was not highlighted in my machine. I followed the instruction to un-highlight all of them and highlighted 9 instead. That unlocked my region code. It plays my region 3 DVDs without any problem. Note: This player does not play any VCD at all. Too bad for me.

Bought region 1 DVD player from Wal-Mart, Illinois, August 2009. Tried all hacks, but none worked completely: using blink_videohelp instructions I got screen with 3,8,19,21,25 highlighted. I tried switching all off all apart from 9, but this played no DVDs. Just for fun, I unhighlighted 3,8,19,21 and rehighlighted 9, this works to play both region 1 and 2 DVDs. To recap: -repeat -fast rewind (below the DISC MENU) -next chapter (above the RETURN) -fast forward (below the ZOOM) -previous chapter (right above the MENU) -play If 3, 8, 19, 21 and 25 are highlighted, un-highlight 3,8,19,21, and highlight 9 instead, leaving 25 highlighted. Then press play. The DVD player now plays region 1 and region 2 (PAL!) DVDs no problem.

Okay, everyone seems to be making some progress. Again, ever since I purchased my Samsung DVD-P191 from Walmart, I can get to the grid using youlweb's post. By deselecting 3,8,19,21,25 and highlighting box #9 "only" does not work for me. I see in these posts where folks have tried this and your DVD player doesn't play any DVDs. This is what happens to me, too. Supposedly, this DVD player is to convert PAL to NTSC. So, playing a PAL DVD should work anyway. From a previous post someone indicates highlighting 3,8,19,21 and highlight 9 will play Region 1 and 2(PAL) DVDs. I have no solution but am hoping someone comes across a hack that works, so I can have a Region Free DVD player. I'm tired of burning a DVD, then using Slysoft AnyDVD to make it Region Free, then burning a second DVD. This is the only workaround that I know. This is wasting DVDs and it stinks. Please, someone come up with a hack for this. Please see my previous posts/comments. Thank you.

This hack that has been listed worked for my friends DVD Region 4 Player. By the way the code for our region is 1,8,10,19,21 if you use the other hack listed on this page. With “No Disc” showing, press the following key sequences on the remote “No Disc” Press REPEAT (On Remote) FR (this is the fast rewind button directly underneath the disc menu button) PLAY,DWN,DWN,RIGHT This will Automatically change the Player to region free (region 9) The 9 shows up on the top left of screen, no red circles(error message) should appear while applying the code. Then open and close the tray, turn the DVD player off and back on and it should now be unlocked for multi-region playback. Initially I thought it had not worked. It did play, but was in black and white. I did find that I had to go to the DVD's Setup Menu and into Display. From there I changed the TV type from Auto to PAL due to it being the system we use in Australasia.(This is a must do if you have an older TV) NTSC is what you would set it on in the United States. From then on the DVD played any Disc in colour. Do not leave Display on Auto as it changes to the format of the disc. The other hack worked as well, but I found this one to be much easier to set up. The other Hack is -repeat -fast rewind -next chapter -fast forward -previous chapter -play Then delete all the boxes with the enter button.(Write the numbers that had been there in case this doesn't work) Highlight the 9 box with the enter button. Press play to set. the player will turn off. Again with this hack you will have to change the Display setting in the Setup Menu from Auto to either NTSC or PAL TV Type to play any region disc. I bought mine in Sweden yesterday. The only method that works is this To recap: -repeat -fast rewind (below the DISC MENU) -next chapter (above the RETURN) -fast forward (below the ZOOM) -previous chapter (right above the MENU) -play The orginal setting was 2,8,10,17,19,21,25 (REG 2 only) How ever I can make it REG 1 only by switching to 3,8,19,21,25 I doesn´t work to only set no 9 or no 9 and 25. I can´t maket it Region free. Only REG1 OR REG2 Has anyone figured this out?

I have finally got my DVD-P191 to be region free! I'm in Australia which is a region 4 country. None of the above messages have exactly worked for me. I tried changing the grid to have just 9 highlighted; this did not play anything. I tried going back to play region 4s. I didn't pay attention to the original numbers so took D981's advice and put 1,8,10,19,21 but it did not play anything. Then i tried someones suggestion of just 9,25 ; which played region 2 but not region 4. Then i recapped on D981's comment and tried changing the Display setting in the Setup menu to PAL instead of AUTO which i didn't try before, and then highlight only 9. Still nothing. Then finally I just went back to 9,25 ; thinking it will just play region 2 however it plays both region 2 and 4 (which i assume means its region free as I don't have any other region DVDs to try)! Because, unlike the first time i tried 9,25, this time i had set the Display setting to PAL. Try this way if u are in a region 4 area. Might work for other places too? Goodluck!

tried all the hacks only to find it played no DVD's then finally reversed it by using Madskills method (I have a region 2 player). Then I read the Samsung DVD-P191K hack and that worked just fine, here it is: 1. Turn player on with without disc in tray. 2. Wait until "no disc" appears on TV screen 3. Press "repeat" (not "repeat A-B"!) on remote. 4. Press in sequence following keys: Region 2 players: FF, FR, FF, UP, DOWN Region 3 players: FF, PLAY, FR, UP, LEFT Region 4 players: FR, PLAY, DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT Region 5 players: FF, UP, DOWN, STOP, RIGHT Region 6 players: LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, PLAY, LEFT Number "9" must appear in upper left corner of TV screen, that means that sequence was successful and player is now region free. If it does not appear turn repeat from beginning. After successful sequence turn player off and on again just in case. Just be sure you know what region your player is before you begin :D merry christmas!

Bought a Samsung DVD-P191 Region 2 player in Czech Republic, Feb 2010 and the instructions described in the post marked "jsprod, August 30 2009:" worked perfectly for me (thanks jsprod).

The other posted hacks didn't work for my region 4 (Australia) DVD-P191, but a slight modification let me play both region 1 and 4 discs (and probably others) Bring up "the grid" according to previously posted directions: Repeat Fast Rewind Next Chapter Fast Forward Prev Chapter Play (Note, for region 4 the numbers were 1,8,10,19,21,25) Change to 9,19,21,25 (might work with 8,9,19,21,25 - didn't try) That's it.

I bought the machine from Walmart. Region 1 default switches are 3 8 19 21 I replaced 3 with 9 and I can play Region 3 PAL DVD on my NTSC TV but it did not play smoothly so I unchecked 8 so it plays smoothly now. so my current setting is 9 19 21 ** switch 10 is to add TV SYSTEM (AUTO, PAL, NTSC) setting to the display setting but I wouldn't recommend for NTSC TV cause it was set to AUTO and it was a pain for me to set that to PAL unless you know the menu precisely (the screen is moving around because incompatible system) ** switch 19 is the Video Output under the display setting (I-SCAN, P-SCAN) so if you unchecked, the option will be gone from the menu. Some Euro model might have a SCART output and I think there may be a switch to add the output option to the menu so you guy need to check and post them here. I hope this will help lots of people.

I have a region 5 player with the codes 1 3 8 10 16 17 19 21 25. I did a matrix with the codes from the other regions displayed here. Having done that it was obvious that boxes 1,2 and 3 form an octal count of the region. i.e region 1 has bit one set, region 2 has bit 2 set, region 4 has bit 3 set and region five has bits one and three set. Obviously with 3 bits one can count only to 7 so it seemed that region 9 must be zero. So I cleared bits 1,2 and 3 and left the rest as they were. Worked for my region 2 and 5 discs. Hope that helps
