1, Make sure that there is no disk in tray and switch on the unit. 2, Cold restart the player by pressing and hold PLAY / STOP buttons at same time for a few seconds. Release buttons. 3, Now you should see a set of language options, select your language. 4, Enter this code with remote: 57538, a number appear i top left corner indicating curent region setting. 5, Press 9 for region-free (or 1 for region one, 2 for region two and so on). 6, Press OPEN/CLOSE button on PLAYER UNIT to open tray. 7, Press STANDBY/POWER on the REMOTE CONTROL to close the tray and shut down. 8, Next time player is turned on it will be set to the new region specified. Note that when this player is set to region free it will feed region fixed dvd's also, not like some players where you must change region to what the disk demands. Very nice. | |||

BE AWARE: The hacks described for Samsung M405 DO NOT WORK. After typing "Repeat" when you enter the code you never get the region number on the screen, but the code numbers as you type them. I have tried to use "Menu" + "Repeat" keys and the result is always the same... | |||

If the above does not work ,try this. Press 'repeat'on the remote control.Next type in one of the following codes to select a region. Region 1: 2,9,3,3,and 4 Region 2: 3,8,7,6,and 7 Region 3: 5,6,7,3,and 2 Region 4: 7,6,8,8 and 4 Region 5: 5,3,8,1 and 4 Region 6: 2,4,4,6 and 2 Having entered one of these codes in,a code should be displayed on the screen indicating the current region of the player .To enable region free press '9' on your controller or '1' for region 1, or 2 for region 2 etc Finally press the 'open' button on your player and press the 'standby' button on your remote control.Your Samsung should now be configured to play all regions. | |||

You can make your Samsung DVD-M405 region free with this simple procedure(!): I have try out all kinds off well-meant method for making my region 2 DVD player region free, fortunately I did not stop try out other methods. I ended up with this method for Samsung DVD-S128 that works! Use the remote if not stated otherwise. 1. Without any discs inserted, POWER ON the player. Press and hold at the same time PLAY and STOP buttons on the player. A language menu should appear after a few seconds. 2. Press 1 for English (or the number corresponding to your preferred choice of language). Apparently this resets your DVD player and is allegedly a good thing to do before applying hacks. 3. Press REPEAT on the remote. (NOT the "REPEAT A-B" button). 4. If your DVD player is: Region 1 coded type: 2 9 3 3 4 or, Region 2 coded type: 5 7 5 3 8 or, Region 3 coded type: 5 6 7 3 2 or, Region 4 coded type: 7 6 8 8 4 or, Region 5 coded type: 5 3 8 1 4 or, Region 6 coded type: 2 4 4 6 2 (So if your dvd player only plays dvd's that are region 2 coded you would type 5 7 5 3 8 ) 5. After you enter the 5-digit number a number indicating your current region number will appear in the upper left corner of the screen, e.g. "02". 6. Quickly, before it disappears press 9 for all regions, or you can choose region 1-6 if you want. 7. Press OPEN/CLOSE. The tray will open. Wait for 15 seconds. 8. Press POWER OFF and wait for 15 seconds before turning back on. If you pressed 9 earlier you're now the proud owner of a region free Samsung DVD-M405 player! | |||

Region code or Macrovision hack posted by Wynand, November 27 2001: To make the player an ALL-REGION player! 1 Power on. 2 Press the open/close button, the cd-tray will come out, remove dvd of other cd if present. 3 Press REPEAT button once. 4 Enter following numbers: 38767 You will then see '02' on the TV-Screen 5 Press button number: 9 6 Press the open/close button. 7 Power off, then on and start viewing dvd's from whichever region you want. | |||
