PostRegion code hack posted by Fredo, April 02 2006:

Hello,

this hack is from HD-841 and also works with the HD-850. I've just (succesfully) tested it with a HD-860 from Best Buy. You will need a universal remote control (I used PM725S, $8.00 from Amazon but you can get it at Fry's, WalMart, etc.) You need to program the remote with the code 768 (Audio, AIWA). Once this is done:

1) Power on player
2) open dvd tray
3) Press "info/select" button on the Philips remote
The message "Servo adjustment complete" will be displayed on the screen.
4) Press "9" on the Philips remote
All the segment on the display on the front of the player will light up
5) Press "9" again on the Philips remote
The LCD display on the front now says "open"
6) Close the tray.

That's it, enjoy, your player is region free.

Thanks to Sippeus (May 27 2005) for the HD-850 code and H. Cho (April 22 2005) for the original code. Also, if you can't find this specific remote (Philips PM752S Universal Consolidator), check the thread on the HD-850 since a number of other universal remotes are listed that accomplish the same hack.

PostRegion code hack posted by Mike, April 04 2006:

Using a Zenith ZN311 universal remote ($7.99 at K-mart..the Phillips that is recommended was $15!), input Aiwa code #687.

1. Press PREV CHAN/REPEAT button
2. TV will display Servo Adjustment Complete (LCD will not display adjust as reported on other models)
3. Press 3 key on Zenith remote twice
4. Power off and back on, should be region free. Did not check HDCP.

I also noticed if you use Aiwa code 786, you can get a menu that displays the current firmware version, region, and HDCP status. I'll try that again now that I have the region free disabled.

PostRegion code hack posted by roberto, April 07 2006:

The region free code works but it does not work to disable HDCP which is what I need to be able to display to my projector.

I use Fredo's hack with Philips universal PM435s from Walmart.

I cannot try the HDCP only hack mentioned in the HD850 thread because the new remote does not have the angle key. Any suggestions?

PostRegion code hack posted by Serg, April 07 2006:

You also can use Philips universal - P435S.
I baught this remote in Walmart - $9.96.
Before you program make sure your TV is ON to be able see the message.
Program AUDIO AIWA - CODE 786 on DVD selection(button). I tried on TV selection but did not get the result may be because I forgot to turn TV on to see the message. Anyway.
After you done to program the remote follow next steps
the same as listed in the previous hack.
1) Power on player
2) open dvd tray
3) Press "info/select" button on the Philips remote
The message "Servo adjustment complete" will be displayed on the screen.
4) Press "9" on the Philips remote
All the segment on the display on the front of the player will light up.----On my I had all ZEROS.
5) Press "9" again on the Philips remote
The LCD display on the front now says "open"
6) Close the tray.
Now your player is region free.
I believe you can use any remote that lists a code with combination of 7,8,6.

Enter code 1405 for Aiwa audio receiver.
Then audio plus button will get the message 'servo adjustment complete' on the TV screen.
hack proceeds as above try 99 or 33.
Should be region unlocked without turning off, just close door.
Tested from region 1 to region 2.

PostRegion code hack posted by RF expert, June 11 2006:

This is the code posted by "NP" for HD850 and works fine for a region 2 HD860 (thanks NP!)

This works with the Samsung remote supplied with the DVD player.

Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. The tv screen and the dvd lcd will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. Number 2 appears on the screen for a short time.

4. Press "9". Number 9 is displayed on the screen.

5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

I bought this DVD (Region 1) in CircuitCity on July.

After you program the remote follow next steps

* When you press the "CH +" button, the color of the screen change blue deep to blue light ( I don't know what is the meaning of this!!!)

I done this hack connect via component and HDMI-DVI because mi Plasma have DVI connection.

Continue seeking HDCP free!

PostRegion code hack posted by Samsung, September 21 2006:

If the player is purchased in North America, you don't need to do anything. The player is set to play region 1 to 6 by the factory. But the format has to be NTSC not PAL.

PostRegion code posted by alfmaz, October 03 2006:

I found that you don't need to buy a remote use your Samsung remote

Make sure the player is switched on, and is at the Samsung logo
screen. Also check the tray is shut and that there's no disc in the
player.

Now press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit
code. This code is different depending on what region your player is
*currently* set to:

R1 - 29334
R2 - 38767
R3 - 56732
R4 - 76884
R5 - 53814
R6 - 24462

So for example if you have an R2 player, press REPEAT-3-8-7-6-7.

If you've done this correctly (and your player is compatible with the
hack), you should see a number at the top left corner of the screen
corresponding to the current region.

Now, pressing any number from 1 to 6 will change to the corresponding
region. Or, press 9 for "auto-region" mode.

Next, press OPEN/CLOSE to open the tray, followed by Standby (or DVD
POWER) on the remote to close it and put the player into Standby mode.
The next time you turn your player on, the new region will be set.

Don't forget that if you want to hack it again, you'll need to use a
different code, as listed above. If it's currently set to "region 9",
use the code for the last *proper* region you set it to.

PostRegion code posted by Rick1ne, October 07 2006:

Tested REPEAT-57538-REPEAT on a region 2 HD860 and it worked fine.
I am now looking into HDCP-free.
I have a PDA with remote control software, and managed to get a Samsung DVD remote up with an 'angle' button.
I followed the HDCP-free hack as documented in the HD850 section(ANGLE-4327-ANGLE-OPEN/CLOSE_TRAY), but do not have component wires to test it with.
I suggest that someone using component wishing for HDCP-free should try it (using a PDA or universal remote set on Samsung-DVD).

PostRegion code hack posted by david, October 24 2006:

Modiffied from sadfs hack:

I programed my remote to my polaroid 32" lcd to 1405 and modified his hack to work.
Enter code 1405 for Aiwa audio receiver.
Then "dvd menu" button will get the message 'servo adjustment complete' on the TV screen.
then press 99 as the door opens.
Should be region unlocked without turning off, just close door.

Silversurfer CONFIRMED.

Silversurfer's hack does work with the new HD860 to make it region free!

I have tested and unfortunately, HDCP is still active. A hack is still needed to disable HDCP so that non-HDCP monitors can display the HD output.

PostRegion code hack posted by Ian Cooper, November 07 2006:

I can confirm that Silver Surfer's hack works. I've tried every other hack on this page and none of them work on my region 1 HD860 DVD player that I bought from Sears (I even bought a Philips P435S universal remote control to no avail). Perhaps the latest batch of HD860s have different firmware. Anyway, Silver Surfer's hack works perfectly, just as he described. I had to hit 9 a few times (I didn't know whether to keep it pressed or just hit it over and over), but that was the only hiccup. Thanks Silver Surfer - I'd just about given up and was about to buy another DVD that was already hacked, so you've saved me $100 or more.

PostRegion code posted by EJ, November 18 2006:

Thanks Surfer, It worked for me to using the Samsung 00054D RC.
I had to press several times the 9 button and it worked.

* Press volume down for Servo adjust

* Press volume up twice

* Close tray

* Turn off, then on

:-)

PostRegion code hack posted by silicon valley player, November 24 2006:

I also confirm Silver Surfer's hack works. I purchased a Samsung DVD-HD860
from TigerDirect ( $39 refurbished) on November 11. After pushing info button,
I pushed 9 button but nothing happened. I just got "No disc" on screen. I
pushed 9 button 4-5 times but didn't work either. #$%#$@!! I pushed 9 button
so many times for about 10 seconds and I saw the number 9 is shown
overlapped with "No Disc". I just want to let you know that you have to push 9
for a long time or push many times and don't be frustrated if you see "No disc"
sign while pushing 9 button.

PostRegion code posted by Hector Herrera, November 24 2006:

I bougth the DVD in July in USA.
Manage to have free region buying an Universal remote control RCA 6 in 1 (Wal-Mart 9.99 $) with the code 203 for a CD / DVD AIWA.
After this corroborates SilverSurfer's hack with the remote control of the DVD. Now there buys a remote universal control for DVD with the key angle.
I try all the manual and automatic codes for the DVD SAMSUNG to remove the HDCP. "Angle-4327-Angle" and nothing ... on screen the forbidden symbol appears when I press Angle but nothing. I try with the opened Tray, closed tray, with disc, without disc ... nothing happens... Any idea????

don't work.

"Make sure the player is switched on, and is at the Samsung logo screen. Also check the tray is shut and that there's no disc in the player.

Now press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit code. This code is different depending on what region your player is *currently* set to:

Now, pressing any number from 1 to 6 will change to the corresponding region. Or, press 9 for "auto-region" mode.

Next, press OPEN/CLOSE to open the tray, followed by Standby (or DVD POWER) on the remote to close it and put the player into Standby mode. The next time you turn your player on, the new region will be set.

Don't forget that if you want to hack it again, you'll need to use a different code, as listed above. If it's currently set to "region 9", use the code for the last *proper* region you set it to."

ATTENTION AUSTRALIAN (REGION 4) USERS!
I have had some success. I closely followed the instructions below (sourced from http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/51681.html). I can only confirm that my player now plays Regions 2 and 4, as they are the only formats I have. I entered all numbers fairly swiftly, and followed each step accurately. I hope this brings success to other HD860 users.

Nutshell version (for Region 4 player)
1. Switch on with no disc in tray; ‘No Disc’ will appear in top left corner of TV.
2. Press ‘REPEAT’, followed by 7 6 8 8 4; the number '4' will appear in the top left corner.
3. Press ‘9’; the number '9' appears in place of the '4'.
4. Open tray and leave open for 15 seconds.
5. Press Power and unit will close tray and switch off.
Done.

Long version
Make sure the player is switched on, and is at the Samsung logo screen. Also check the tray is shut and that there's no disc in the player.

1. Press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit code. This code is different depending on what region your player is *currently* set to:

2. Enter the following info as pertaining to your Region.
If your player was purchased in Region 1:
Press the buttons 2, 9, 3, 3 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
If it was purchased in Region 2:

For Region 4 players:
Press the buttons 7, 6, 8, 8 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 5 players:
Press the buttons 5, 3, 8, 1 and 4 on your remote control, in order one at a time
For Region 6 players:
Press the buttons 2, 4, 4, 6 and 2 on your remote control, in order one at a time

3. The numbers 01 or similar current region code will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display

4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback
NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed very quickly

5. Open your DISC tray and leave open for 15 secs.

6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and the DISC tray will be closed and player shut off.

7. Power on player and it is now set to the new region code you chose in step 4 above

Enjoy.

I can 100% confirm Silver Surfer's post on opening the regions on the Samsung HD860. It worked perfectly. I did not change the HDMI to 480 as I have no HDMI cable yet.

Be-that-as-it-may, it worked perfectly. We live in the USA and have some dvd's from Japan. After using Silver Surfer's directions, all disks worked perfectly. I am very, "jazzed". Thank you Silver Surfer! Perfect!

The other hacks with various codes using the remote provided with the unit did not work. And I wasn't going to go out and buy any universal remote. I really hope that all see Silver Surfers directions before purchasing any universal remotes.

Thanks again!

-Wait until appears "no disc"
-Open and shut the tray
-Wait for "no disc" again
-Press REPEAT
-Press 76884 (for region 4. I guess that to other regions the codes quoted in others topics above will apply)
-When appears the number 4 on TV screen, press number 9
-Press ENTER

Now you have a region free player!

Just wanted to add that I bought a new HD860 and the listed cracks didn't appear to work since no numbers ever appeared on the screen, but then when I put in a region 6 disk it worked just fine. I think the Silver Surfer hack was the one that did the trick.

I purchased my 860 in the UK, bought it to the US and using Silver Surfers hack, DVD's all play perfectly.

I do have to question as to whether or not anyone has tried this hack to see if it plays HD DVDs? Reason for asking is that I've just purchased my first HD DVD (Region 1) and it won't play, reporting "This disc can not be played".

The disc works fine in other HD DVDs.

I've tried re-applying Silver Surfers hack, but instead of keeping the '9' button down (taking this to be all regions) I kept the '1' button down (assuming to set the player to Region 1 and see if it would then play the HD DVD) - unfortunately no '1' appeared in the top left hand side of the screen.

Dear Silver Sufers,

I succeeded to hack the region code of my Samsung DVD-V9800 DVD/VCR combo using your method. I'll post it to DVD-1080P, DVD-V9700, and DVD-9800. Thank you and god bless you.
