Region Free Hack: You will need a remote control from an AIWA sound system with the key "Clock". NOTE* On the one i used it also had an orange "function" button that i had to hold down while pressing the clock key. Turn on your DVD player; Open the disc deck and remove any movie. Now that there is no movie inside turn the DVD player off and then back on. As soon as the DVD player reads "NO DISC" open the disc deck and leave it open. DON'T CLOSE!!!! Using the AIWA remote control. Press Clock - and the screen will show the word "Servo adjustment complete". At this time using the Aiwa remote control again press 6. NOTE* On my remote i had to hold down the "function" key and press 6 at the same time. The screen will change (flash) quickly and if you notice your region will switch to 9 and it will say HDCP-"OK". NOTE* This is not a HDCP HACK i have yet to figure that out and haven't noticed it posted yet. Hopefully someone will find one soon. After the hack has been applied the screen will go black and you will to turn the unit off and back on again. you will also need to change the unit back to the proper video you are using. (example if you are using component video it will switch back to S-video after the hack has been applied) Just select your video output and you are finished. You are now region free!!!!!!!! This hack worked for me on my Region 1 Samsung DVD-HD845 DVD Player.

Picked up a player at Best Buy. The Samsung DVD-HD845 (US R1) Player. Tried playing R3 Disc -- won't play. Searched the forums and hacks and finally found the right combo for this player. 1) Get Phillips Universal Remote (PMDVR8/PDVR8). Also at Best Buy. 2) Program the CBL button. Press and hold CODE SEARCH. Red light will come on. Press the CBL button. Red light still stays on. Type 786. Red light will go out. 3) Turn on DVD player with no disc. Of course the "No Disc" message will appear on the screen. 4) On the Phillips Remote, press the DISPLAY/INFO button. 5) The message "Servp adjustment complete" will appear. 6) Press 9. Press 9 again. The message "No Disc" will appear again. 7) Using the Samsung remote, open/close the tray (don't know if you need to do this, but most the hacks here suggest it -- plus it doesn't hurt). 8) Turn off. 9) Turn back on and play your R3 DVD. Now I can play my Asian R3 DVDs! Hope this helps ya.

The hack posted by Syndicate701 works. I tried it out on my Samsung HD845(region 1)last night with the Phillips 8 function remote. I didn't have to reset the video output(I use the HDMI setting) I tested playback with my Japanese region 2 DVDs of Kill Bill volume 1 & 2. Works great!!! Thanks!!!! John

You can use a Logitech Harmony remote (mine is the 880) to emulate an AIWA XR-X7 device. Following Jereme's instructions, all you have to do is set the device to the AIWA system and then hit the "Clock" button. Pressing "6" didn't do anything. I turned off the DVD player, then turned it back on; placed the region 2 DVD in and it worked. Pretty simple and painless. The most difficult part was finding an AIWA system with a remote with "Clock" on it. Took me two tries though. |
