	remote hack will not work on new model! I e-mailed Ronin at www.rmwx.com/contactus/index.php and was sent instructions and firmware update to load for region free playback - now works with all region discs!

	I acquired a ronin ph80 dvd player from special reserve, and they sent the above code witch did not work, after contacting them they said this code will not work on the newer versions they need a firmware disk to make them region free. Ben

With this hack best to play a DVD before bringing up the menu on screen to see your code numbers... it makes the codes MUCH more visible! If you get the codes wrong the DVD player WILL moan about "unknown format" If you follow the instructions to the letter and ensure that the codes that you use are correct it should work.

	The only way to change the Ronin P80h is by software. I aquired the software from an Ronin Engineer. You have to load the sofware onto a CD with the seriel Numberfrom your Ronin By pressing Setup the 8888 or 6688 on some machines then it will have a bin number you load the front part upto the strok line and that is the lable. then place it in the Unit and press Play this alters it to Multi region. And THAT IS THE ONLY WAY if anyone is itrested i can email the instruction , my details. derek@16mmcinma.com regards Derek

	Successfully applied the firmware upgrade to the new Ronin P80H Karaoke version. I think this is the most complete version of this hack as the idea of upgrading firmware on a DVD player was a new experience for me. 1) Download the *.bin file from http://www.ronindvd.0catch.com/ or you go to http://roninhacks.shacknet.nu/ 2) Make sure you download the documentation to create the CDR disc. 3) The critical stage in creating the CDR is to establish the version number of your DVD player. If you just select 'setup' then enter the code 8888 the display is not very clear. TIP: Put any working DVD disk into the player first then press 'setup' then enter the code 8888. The version number becomes very clear. 4) The version number on my DVD player came up as P80H0502/11721213, therefore, when you create your CDR disk with the firmware file 11721213.bin it is very important that you Label the blank CDR disk (Volume name)as P80H0502 otherwise when booting up the DVD player with the CDR you will receive an error message saying 'unknown format'. 5) Place the CDR disc with the firmware file into the DVD player, power off, power on you will see the message 'Upgrade file detected' 'press play to start'. 6) Leave the unit powered up until it has completed the upgrade, when the upgrade has completed the DVD player ejects the disc automatically without any message. Remove the disc, power the DVD player down at this stage. 7) Power up the DVD player without any disks, select 'setup' from the remote, enter the following combination of numbers: 13798888. A screen comes up with a whole list of configuration codes, the botton line will now say 'Region' - '0', instead of '2'.

	Important info for P80H hack! After you apply the upgrade you need to enter settings then move rig hton the menu till you get to preferences THEN type 1379 then you can use the arrow keys on remote to change region code to 0

	Solved the above query i placed, simply used a different manufacturers disk to the cheaper sh!te i was using and Hey Presto!! Used Roxio and it went first time, just by renaming it to XXXXXXX.Bin. Oh and with Roxio, remember to Finalize your Recording or it won`t work at all!

	Just to confirm that after several failed attempts due to my own stupidity I have finally installed the new software and changed region to 0 on a new P80H Karaoke (manufactured September 2003 Version 2.2) My machine is a P80H003 13231213 with the BIN bit hidden by graphics characters that vary with time and entry point. I just added the .BIN suffix to the filename shown when you hit setup 8888. My big mistake was to set the volume label on the CD P80H003 and not P80H0003 missing out a 0 - doh! With Nero you do not have check the finalise CD box for it to work. Interesting Note for upgraders. I powered the machine up from standby, inserted upgrade CD and closed the drive door. The P80H took a long time (20-30 secs) to recognise the CD as an upgrade - sounded like it may have been mis-reading the CD. It popped up the upgrade message, I hit Play and a couple of seconds later the drive door opened - then 15 seconds later the door closed, the screen went blank and the machine restarted itself. I rushed to hit eject to get the CD back then powered off/on from the handset, went into setup 1379 and hey presto up/down changes the region. No need to remove power at any time. Good Luck...

	I had a great deal of difficulties trying to make my dvd multi-region. After about 5 attempts I decided to follow the above method (See hack from Bob.C above) and it worked first time. Thanks Bob. I think the secret is to add the extra 0 as he says. Mike

	Bought my Ronin P80H from Ebuyer with the understanding it would come region free. It did not . Any attempt to contact Ebuyer has brought no response at all. They failed to answer Email or phone calls. Had to go to Ronin direct or should I say Repair tech. They are marvelous people and respond instantly to any request for help. This must be the most obliging company in the UK. So buyer beware.

	Firmware Hack worked fine first time. Just Follow the instructions above to the letter. Now all we need is some Macrovision hacked firmware and a means of changing the startup graphic, that bloke on his sofa is just sad. This will come in time.

	Frequently check http://roninhacks.shacknet.nu ... updates are continually posted and questions are usually answered. Also all info is from a reliable source. Any comments or updates to instructions on their will be greatfully recieved by the site also! ALSO a new serial number engine is soon to be released on their in the next week or two which will give you exact detailed instructions for your specific DVD player. Good luck!

	I tried to upgrade using a TDK CD-R but my P80H complained about unknown format. I emailed Ronin who suggested I try a 'quality' CD-RW disc. I used a Maxwell CD-RW and it worked first time. Hope this helps others, Jason

	As said above there are a few issues sometimes with the firmware updates i..e volume on max... but you can get around this by turning the player down. For listings on such issues see FAQ section on http://roninhacks.shacknet.nu we try to list the known problems that people have told us about. If you have problems trying to make your player region free then email us from the above site and we will help. For downgrading back to the original firmware this is not possible via the CD Rom upgrade process which is why it's not available... but with the UK currently they will exchange the player for a non multiregion enabled machine if you are unhappy... there policy may or may not change on this though in the future!! At the end of the day from what we have seen most are very happy with the multiregion updates and now that we distribute ready made CD's we have no problems with machines dieing after the upgrade.

	I got my Sep 2003 P80H karaoke, found a version of the P80H hack on http://www.nevatech.co.uk/ronin-support-website/hacks/p80h.zip but couldn't get it to update the firmware properly (I tried lots) so I ordered my upgrade from roninhacks. Got bored waiting and downloaded a hack from http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/site/ronin/P80h.zip. this includes an install guide. I renamed the file & volume as per previous posts - It updated quickly (less than 3 seconds from pressing play to install firmware upgrade) and ejected cd. My region setting had changed - to 3. Worked out that you can change the region setting from (settings/prefs/1379/enter your region)although it doesn't display the new region until you go back into settings. Seems to work fine now.

	My advice to anyone who has purchased one of these machines is to take it back NOW. ALL the hacks mentioned here do not work. I've also bought an upgrade disc from the ronin website which said it changed my settings when I didn't. I tried again and the disc no longer has anything on it!! I only got the thing because Novatech.co.uk said it was multi-region! So save your money and the cost of an upgrade disc. Rant over.
