As listed on the Polaroid PDV-0700 Hack Page posted by Jay at August 12 2003, this hack works with the PDV-0800 as well: 1. When playing a DVD, press stop on the DVD Player to ensure that the disc is not spinning. (You may even want to remove the disc from the playing unit.) 2. Using the remote control, press the "Set-Up" button and advance to the far right-hand tab "Preferences". 3. Enter Code # 1379 then use the "up & down arrows" to change the Region Code. 4. Once code is chosen, press enter.

This hack doesn't work on this player I purchased from Best Buy in the USA. It doesn't even have a menu named "Preferences". Tried several ways with no luck. Any ideas?

I just re-tested the player (and I got it from Best Buy as well) and I got the hack to work. I think the key thing is to make sure that the player is not playing a disc. I did notice that if you go into Setup while a disc is playing, it won't even go into the Preferences menu. The Preference menu shows: Audio, Subtitle, Disc Menu, Parental, Password, Default and Version. Just enter 1379 without selecting any menu item and the Region Code screen pops up.

Not really a "hack" since it appears in the unit's manual. For all of Polaroid's portable dvd players (PDV-0700, PDV-0750, PDV-0800 and PDV-0820), all of which are PAL/NTSC compatible, look at the last paragraph of "System Setup" in the manual. The method is the same for each player: 1. Remove DVD disc from unit. 2. Turn on the DVD player. 3. Using the remote control, press the "setup" button and use the right arrow key to advance to the far right-hand tab entitled "Preferences" Note: If there is a disc in the player, you will not see the "Preferences" tab!!!! 4. Enter code number 1379 and then use the up and down arrows to change the arrow code to mtch the DVD you want to play. Note: I set my to "0" and it now plays both region 1 and region 2 discs without having to reset the region each time you want to watch different-region discs. 5. Once the applicable code is shosen, press the "enter" button to save and the "setup" button to exit.
