I am working in Russia and just bought the LX 8500 W with region set to 5 (sticker on back of device. I tried the hack for the LX 8500 W posted previously, but I did get no response at all from the unit! After that I used the combination given by Philips for reprogramming the region after performing a firmware update (Ver 26; check on their website under support for the LX 8500 W: Open tray, press 9 9 9 9, press AUDIO, press code number 1 - 9. Unit will display the new region for a few seconds and then shuts down. Start unit again and you are able to play DVD's for the newly set region (works e.g. for Europe or Region 2) HOWEVER, I CANNOT SET THE UNIT TO REGION 1 (Canada, US) OR REGION FREE, thus I cannot watch half of my DVDs! ANY HINTS HOW TO SET THE UNIT REGION FREE OR TO REGION 1? THANKS ! | |||

so i made my cinema regionfree - before upgrading software and after upgrading i didn have to make it region free again. So make your cinema regionfree before upgrading software. | |||
