I had tried all codes available for various Philips products (including the 9999 trick) without any success. Just at the point of losing all hopes, the formula suggested by kacharava (see post on Oct 23, 2010) solved my problem. Step 0. Make sure that there is no disc in tray. Perform the following steps exactly as given: Step 1. Switch ON the player from remote. Step 2. Press the DISC button on the remote. Step 3. Switch OFF the player from remote. Step 4. Switch ON the player from remote. Step 5. Press the EJECT button on the remote. Step 6. Quickly enter 99990 from the remote (quickly, and without any delay between the numbers). step 7. You should see "Region 0" on the TV screen. Step 8. Switch the player OFF and then ON. The player should be region-free. Note 1. My HTS5540 was originally Region2 locked. Now it can play Region1 as well as Region2 (didn't try other regions). Note 2. I haven't noticed any loss of disc features or loss of functionality in the Root or Title Menus. Note 3. The touch buttons on the player are also working. No additional trick was necessary. Note 4. I haven't downloaded/installed any software upgrade for my product (before or after applying the steps above). Note 5. Even if you have tried 99990 and failed earlier, I strongly recommend the steps above EXACTLY and with particular attention during Step 6. Apparently it worked for HTS5120 (grateful to kacharava for that). I myself, verified it for my HTS5540. Should work on some other models too. |
