I confirm the hack for yhe DVP 3960 is the same for the Philips DVP 3980 purchase at Wal-Mart Canada and it's work fine now on multiregion. The hack works with one modification: I had to open the tray before accessing the setup menu, or it wouldn't allow me to access the Preferences menu. Press "Setup" Scroll to "Preference" using the Left/Right arrow key Press "138931" and a popup screen will appear Use the Up arrow key and select 0 for a region free DVD player. Press "OK" Done.

Just used this hack on a DVP3980 purchased at a Canadian Walmart. Build date on the unit is March 2009. I did not have to open the tray to be able to scroll over to preferences. I also did not press OK once I was on preferences. Just scrolled there and entered 138931 at which point I was able to scroll between regions 0 to 6. Thanks!

Just bought one in Target in Texas. Bought on 18th December 2009, made June 2009. Everything works as billed, just followed the instructions, put a UK DVD in and it played straight off. Thanks to all who have kept this up to date.

Just wanted to confirm that the hack still works for 3980 as posted, for a DVD player purchased in Los Angeles, August 2010. Very exciting! Most important point -- you CANNOT have a disc inserted at the time you perform the hack... if you do, preferences menu does not appear. |
