Perhaps there is an easier way, but to determine firmware version you can first download the firmware from http://www.p4c.philips.com and burn it on a CD, carefully following the instructions coming with it.. When you insert the CD into the player, still following the instructions, both the new and the existing firmware version is displayed, and you can opt to cancel the upgrade - I did as the preinstalled firmware (20041112APV) apparently was newer than the downloaded (20041012A). | |||

This hack worked on my DVDR630VR. After entering the seven zeros (while the lock icon is selected on the system menu), the DVDR even gives a pop-up congratulating you for making the unit region-free! My firmware version is 041112A. To find the firmware version of the DVDR630VR, press and hold the front panel record and play buttons simultaneously. After holding them for a few seconds a diagnostic screen will appear showing the firmware version, region setting, and several other options. Press and hold the front panel record and play buttons again to exit the diagnostic screen. Don't try to edit anything on the diagnostic screen. After you apply the hack, you can check that the player is region zero using the diagnostic screen. | |||
