Power on the player with no disk in the tray and wait untill "No disk" will be diplayed on the VFD. Enter "008600X" (where "X" is the region number - "0" - all, "1" - 1, "2" - 2 etc.) with the remote, then press "OK". Please note, that there will no changes on the screen. To check - open/close the tray and enter "0009" and press "OK". Firmware version and current region code must appear on the screen. Open/close the tray will resume the player. You can reapply new region just after open/close the tray. | |||

Stratus, your Philips DVDR3400 is puchased in the US, and Region 1? So, the hack you described now, makes it completely region free, and for instance, you can play PAL Region 4 or 5? How does this change its recording, if at all, it says it supports PAL/NTSC recording, but only has NTSC tuner? Thank you. | |||

How to record from TV in PAL-M (Brazil, maybe works with other systems/countries). :. Select the channel you would like to record from. The colors will be messed up (PAL-M) :. Go to System menu and change the TV system from NTSC to PAL. Color system will change. Don't confirm the change, by waiting 10 seconds or pressing cancel. :. System will go back to NTSC. But now the color will be alright! ;-) | |||
