I bought two 725 last week and I hacked them (made them region free) succesfully using the supplied remote control. I carried out the following steps: - Power on the dvd player with no disc in tray. - Wait until display on dvd player says -No disc- - Open the tray pushing the button on dvd player front panel. - Press on remote control 9 9 9 9 0 (four times a nine followed by a zero) leaving approx. 1 to 2 seconds between each keypress. After pressing the 0, in the upper left corner of the TV screen the message 'Region:0' appears. - Close the tray. - Now the dvd player is region free and ready for use. A very simple hack, I love it. I hope it works for you also. Europe

To All, I did mean 728 in last post, not 725. But maybe the hack works for the 725 also. Sorry for the wrong post. Europe

This is AWESOME! I have a Philips 726 (yes, 7-2-6) and I thought it was a 725. I found the hack for 725 and applied it to the 726, not knowing that the type was different, and it worked! It is the hack posted by EUROPE, which is to turn on the power with NO DISC in tray, wait to "no disc" msg., open tray, enter on remote 9 9 9 9 0, then it unlocks to REGION:0. Needless to say, I am now watching my Cher Farewell Tour DVD that was a gift to me from my partner's trip to Europe. To EUROPE: THANK YOU!!!!!! You don't know how much excitement you have brought me by knowing that now "I" have control over my player, and not the manufacturer. In a nutshell, my intent for this post is to verify that the hack DOES work on the Philips 725 AND 726 models. Go play your discs, folks, and toast one to Europe!! Randy |
