http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/panasonic-dmp-bdt500/11801 Copying the hack in the above link worked for me on this recorder, I used the latest firmware which I first upgraded to, and used a One for All remote control. Steps below are copied from the post on the link above. Preparation: 1 - select DVD device on remote, 2 - hold [magic] until the DVD LED lights indicate the press 3 - enter 0490 (DVD LED blinks twice). Now program button 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 0 with the following codes: 1. 00191 2. 00120 3. 00065 4. 00180 5. 00143 6. 00155 7. 00122 8. 00117 9. 00129 0. 00123 Use the following steps to program each button: 1 - hold [magic] until the DVD LED lights up (blinks twice on my remote) 2 - press 994 (DVD LED blinks twice), 3 - press [magic], 4 - enter the 5 digit code from above, 5 - press the number button listed, before the code above, to assign the code to it (DVD LED blinks twice). Example (button 1 on the control): Hold [magic] until DVD LED is lit -> press 994 -> press [magic] -> press 00191 -> press 1. Switch on DVD player, make sure there is no disc in it. Press the One For All Remote buttons in the following sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 The player will restart and then it should be DVD region free. Good luck. | |||

This hack seems to work on most Panasonic models on this site.. Do you know if this works for devices that were sources in Region 1 (US)? I have tried this same hack several times on my Panasonic device using a UK sourced One for All remote to no avail. | |||

American Panasonic devices have been software restricted to NTSC-only playback. You need to install 3rd party firmware to bypass that restriction and to be able to change DVD and Blu-ray region settings. http://www.firmwareinfo.com | |||

Worked like a charm using an all-in-one urc7140 remote. Did need to put the key codes in a few times. As previously mentioned, be sure the led blinks twice. If you're still typing the number in and you get 'weird flashes' , the code won't stick. Do it again for that button. Worked on a DMR-BWT835 from New Zealand. Thanks! | |||
