I just applied to the Panasonic DMP-BD65 the (first and for the moment only) region code hack posted in the section for the Panasonic DMP-BD60. I works also very well for the DMP-BD65. I used an older "Kameleon 6" remote control which is also okay (instead of the "Kameleon 8"). | |||

I got a Panasonic DMP-BD65 Blu-Ray player and Kameleon URC 9960 B01 remote control in USA. Here it is how I made it DVD-region free based on suggestions I got from forums. (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/panasonic-dmp-bd60/10033) (http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-one4all/thread.cgi? 5631) Protocol: Set up the DVD button on the Remote to control the player using code 0490. The instructions on how to do this is in the Kameleon URC 9960 manual. Then reprogram these advanced codes to the numeric keys. 1. press and hold SETUP for two blinks 2. press OTHER 3. enter 9-9-4 4. press the DEVICE key (=press DVD icon here) 5. press SETUP for one blink 6. enter advanced code 7. pick a key 8. redo step 2 through 7 for all the codes below. key 1, code 00191 key 2, code 00120 key 3, code 00065 key 4, code 00180 key 5, code 00143 key 6, code 00155 key 7, code 00122 key 8, code 00117 key 9, code 00129 key 0, code 00123 (If the 9960 is B00 version it takes 3 digit adavanced codes (w/o 00), if it is the B01 version, 5 digit advanced codes as above.) Switch on Blu-Ray player, make sure their is no disc in it. Press the Kameleon URC 9960 buttons in the following sequence with about a second pause between presses. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 The Blu-Ray player should reboot itself and then it should play DVD from any region. A warning for people with American Panasonic Blu-ray players: It is not possible to "hack" an American Panasonic Blu-ray device with just a remote control. If you apply the remote control button sequence to an American Panasonic Blu-ray device, you will only gain the ability to play NTSC discs from different regions ! American Panasonic Blu-ray devices are restricted to NTSC playback. This restriction can only be removed by installing enhanced firmware. Do a google search for "dmp-bd65 enhanced firmware" and you will get the idea. | |||
