I bought this unit before Christmas in Perth, WA. It has a Region 4 label attached, but IS a multi zone machine. I have played numerous Region 2 discs without any issues at all. Onkyo did state that these are normally shipped "Region Free". | |||

No no no no, a lot of region 4 disks are also region 2. That's the reason that the disks play in your player. Onkyo is *not* allowed to sell a multiregion machine. | |||

The Disks I play are marked Region 2, not Region 4 at all. They were purchased in the UK. | |||

The Onkyo DV-SP301 needs firmware modification in order to be multi-zoned. I asked my retailer, who provided me with a CD-R which had the firmware upgrade on it. Also, the reason that the Zone 2 discs were playing in a Zone 4 player (as mentioned above) is cause many Zone 4 and Zone 2 discs are produced from the same master, encoded to play in both zones. This is done to save on mastering costs. The discs are then sold with different packaging in the two regions in order to make them look like they are only compatable with a single zone. | |||
