Press 1 over and over while the foreign DVD is loading. This will bypass Region Coding and taken you to start of Chapter 1. Problems : You lose control of DVD player completely. No buttons will work on remote or player except On/Off and Volume. Also, if the DVD has a sub menu, such as language, then you will end up stuck at that menu without being able to get past it.

Hack is confirmed. Works great, even though you have no control.

I have the 5860, and when I go to my preferences menu (with no disc, haven't tried it with one in yet) I actually have a menu option for region, no codes, no furious button pushing. Just highlight it and select your region. Didn't notice it until trying the above hack, but it certainly makes things easier.

I have 2 MIntek 5860's and can't get the region free hack to work on either of them. Any ideas? I have followed instructions as listed: 1. turn unit on with no disk 2. open lid to view screen 3. pressed setup on remote 4. went to preference setup (had to go down 4 lines) and pressed enter (no enter on remote, but used middle button in the directional buttons) 5. typed in the code 2 2 2 4 4 3 6. pressed the left arrow button down and released, then pressed the down arrow button and released. after this the hack says I should get a screen that says REGION CODE 1, but I never leave the original preference setup page (the one that gives various options, starting with audio on the top). Are there only certain 5860's that this hack works on? Mine is a region 1, US version.

Hi, I read the posted password hack for the Mintek MDP-5860. I just want to ask, is this a joke ??? I have tried it hundreds of times and it DOES NOT work. The instruction are copy-pasted all over the internet, the same unclear context: there's no "preference" there is Preference Setup and witch arrows to press on the remote or the player and should that at the same time??? Any way I have tried all the possibilities and now i am just having a heart attack. Thanx

I will recap all that I found out about this player and region hacking. Pressing 1-9 during LOADING will start a "Wrong Region" DVD, but you lose control of the player. Password procedure 222433 Will NOT work on my mdp5860. SETUP - GENERAL SETUP - ENTER (play) 1379 shows version Mine is this: Version 03.01.06.02 SUB-VER 00.00.00.02 8032 03.01.06.02 Servo 80.76.00.03 RISC 02.01.06.02 DSP 02.00.01.57 Region Code 1 SETUP - PREFERENCE SETUP - ENTER (play) 1379 shows region only Region Code 1 This looks a lot like an MT1389 Chipset (Divx) See this for more info: http://personal.inet.fi/koti/mabreaker/mabreaker/mediatek/documents/index.html The MT1389 can be firmware hacked and updated via RS232 using a 4pin connector. See my doings here: http://digilander.libero.it/electrons On the StarCluster 3201, you can get to the Region Code menu (same way) and use UP and DOWN to change it. On the Sunstech X505 you can get to the same menu (same way) but cannot change it (just like the MDP5860). You have to use a "blind" manouver doing OPEN-CLEAR-1369-0-CLOSE. You don't see anything happening, but if you check, the region has been changed. This also does NOT work on the MDP5860. This is all I know so far. I will try to trace the 4pin back to the chip and see if there's a way to do a firmware dump/upgrade. Hope this leads someone in the right direction.

I too am having problems changing the region code in my Mintek MDP 5860. While playing around I came up with this: 1. Turn on player. 2. Open player (this may or may not make a difference). 3. Click on Setup. 4. Go to General Preferences and press enter. 5. Press 1379 A gray box appears with the region code. But at this point I could not change the code. Perhaps someone can take this further. If you go into General Setup instead of Preference Setup and put in 1379 you get more information. The region code shows up there also but I could not change it.

I spoke with someone at Mintek. Codes they suggested were 222443, 242112, 221441, 224441, or 245512. Follow the same procedure as suggested by other posts (go to setup, preferences, enter code, left down, etc.) These numbers still did not work for me in changing the region code for my player but perhaps they'll work on some.

Converting the MDP-5860 player to Multi-Region: 1. Insert disk you wish to play. 2. Press and hold the Menu button on the base of the player, while powering on. 3. Keep holding Menu, while rapidly pressing 1 on your remote. 4. The movie should begin at chapter 1. While this should allow you to view movies from a different region, you will have no control. When finished, power off the player to stop the movie. I did this for my MDP-5860 and I confirm it works!!! |
