I can verify the hack by BAS (1/02/04) for region 3 disks. However, the disk will play but I have no control: can't pause, stop, scan or anything. I have to switch the player off . Help. Also, the hack by Cosi (4/16/04) did not work because my player would not allow me to select the "preferences" menu. Also there is no button (but yes a switch) for power on. Help. | |||

Ok guys, the details given before are not quite complete. I messed around with the previos hacks given and yes continually pressing 1 will play the dvd of any region, but may freeze at the title menu. Here is the hack thats guaranteed to work. Same as previously explained but..................... 1 Before powering on, open the lids, remove any media and leave it open so you can actually see the compartment where you place a disc.(this is how you get access to the preferences menu) 2 switch on unit from the side of the drive Now on the remote control 3 Press set-up 4 Select preferences menu 5 Press play 6 Input 251131 7 Press "Left" then "Down" button Should show region code menu 8 Select region free by hitting the 10/0 button, this will change the region to region free (ie 0) 9 Press set-up to confirm and exit. I can't make the "251131" hack work with my MDP-1770 but the "press button 1 on the remote until the DVD plays" absolutely works with one caveat - I have a neon blue bar on the top left of my screen that says "WRONG REGION" continuously while the movie plays. Oh well... | |||

Paul's solution using the 25... code worked almost perfectly for my MDP-1170. I wasn't able to use the 10/0 button to select 0, but was perfectly able to select any other region (2 for Europe works fabulously). Thanks! | |||
