Here is a procedure to activate the hidden menu, which work on MDP-1020. Still need to figure out how to change the region code once in there. Open tray, setup, enter general setup, 1,3,7,9, the hidden menu pops up. Unfortunately, the region code is not highlighted and I have not yet found a way around Also, a backup copy (using DVDXCOPY) of a zone 2 disc works perfectly in the MDP-1020. | |||

Insert DVD you want to play Power ON With remote control repeatedly press 1 until message "Wrong region" -> DVD start to play You can turn off the message by pressing the 'Audio' button. It's not perfect and you have no control of the dvd. You even have to turn the player off just to stop it. ------------------------------------------------------ I tried this hack on this model dvd player and it works just fine. you can't use the menus but thats the only thing that won't work that I know of. | |||

HERE ARE THE STEPS TO MAKE THE 1010 REGION FREE. STEP 1: TURN ON MACHINE STEP 2: PRESS SETUP ON REMOTE STEP 3: ENTER INTO PREFERENCES MENU STEP 4: ENTER IN THE CODE 255135 STEP 5: PRESS THE LEFT ARROW THEN THE DOWN ARROW QUICKLY STEP 6: THE REGION CODE BANNER WILL APPEAR ENTER IN THE REGION CODE 0 STEP 7: HIT SET UP BUTTON AGAIN AND YOUR ALL DONE | |||

After trying all three hacks above in vain, tried hack posted by SteveB5 for MDP-1020 and it worked like a charm: 1. turn on the machine and open the disc drawer. 2. press setup and enter the preferences menu 3. press 2 2 5 4 2 2 on the remote 4. press the left arrow and then the down arrow (the menu navigation keys) - A box with "Region Code 1" is displayed. 5. press the 10/0 key - the box should read "Region Code 0" 6. Press Play - the box should disappear. 7. Press Setup to exit setup. MDP-1010 bought at Techdepot.com/Amazon.com in Feb 2005 | |||
